Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
From just that little bit of information Adelaide had offered him about Paris, Taylor wasn't sure how he would ever fit into a place like that. He'd always wanted to travel the world and Paris had been on the list cause why not? Everyone talked about the city of love, but he didn't know there were still families that married off their daughters for wealth and power. He would be the talk of the town, he was sure, and not in a good way. He would be the laughing joke of the city, the prime example of a man you don't want want to be or look for as a potential husband. So maybe Paris shouldn't be on his list. He could tell he wasn't exactly winning Townsend over today but that would be an issue of time and he was determined when he put his mind to it. He never hesitated to take on a task the man gave him and he put his all into everything he accomplished, wanting Townsend to see him first as a hard worker with good results and then he'd work on the rest. Adelaide was certainly testing Towsend today, Taylor noticed, but he was sure that was a daily thing for them two to argue about something. Townsend was so proper, he must have been right at home in Paris. Whereas Adelaide was a whole different breed. It was like she chose to rebel for the fun of it sometimes but Taylor could understand that all too well. She teased him on and again and he tried to play back as much as he could without getting punhed by Townsend but he could tell Townsend was getting toward his breaking point. He tried to keep his head down after the little showdown with the tea, going back to his task, but he couldn't stand the heat so the shirt had to go. That wasn't to catch Adelaide's attention. That was just a bonus. He was happy to see that Reginald was dozing with his stick, feeling accomplished in that respect too as he turned his attention on Rose who was watching him like a bodyguard just waiting for the wrong move so she could snap. Adelaide laughed at his comment to her, saying that someone much better was here already. He turned his head toward the door to the house. "Oh? Is Townsend going to let him in so I can meet this great guy? Or do you want Townsend to take his shirt off too? Maybe you like a little Englishman with your tea." He teased her with a knowing grin, playing every bit the fool cause it wasn't like him to be arrogant in any way. He knew that she was purring those words at him because shew as trying to compliment him but he had never been good at taking compliments. He didn't see himself as anything anyone would want. He might be able to come across as confident but that was because he'd grown up laughing at himself so he didn't know shyness unless it was around a pretty girl. In the house, it was more closed quarters and with Adelaide getting so close and them talking about serious things, it had tapped into that self conscious. But out here, he was in his element. He was doing the kind of work he loved and showing that he was actually good at it. Here, he could look her in the eye and not shy away, that twinkle in his gaze only brightening every time she laughed or spoke to him. She asked about the scars and he told her he could tell her all about it over a cute smile and a drink. Her face softened, telling him that sounded like a fair price and he smiled, continuing his raking. It didn't take long to bag up the leaves then and get them off the lawn before he went to grab the mulch and started spreading it. He tried to make it all even so it looked better, standing back at the end to make sure he didn't miss anything. That's about when he heard someone clearing his throat and he turned slowly with a sheepish smirk, sure that it was Townsend. He gave Taylor a critical look before saying that would be all and next time he should bring an extra shirt. "Yes sir, I'll be here, extra shirt in tow." His eyes twinkled just a bit at the last part since he knew Adelaide was watching. Townsend went back in the house and at first so did Adelaide so Taylor took the moment to close up the shed and get his shirt off the back of the chair. At least it had dried some. He threw it over his shoulder, waiting patiently as Adelaide came back out. He noted that her gaze traveled over his upper body before giving him a coy smile and he smirked back in return, his brow raising a little as if to say "like what you see?" She thanked him and said it was pay for the next two weeks. Now his brow rose a little higher. "You're paying me in advance? Wow, ok. I mean, I'll be here every day. I've just never had someone pay that way before." He sounded a little sheepish near the end, clearing his throat to stop himself from sounding more stupid as she handed him the check. He wasn't even going to look at it but a simple glimpse at the check and his eyes widened, almost dropping the check like it was on fire as he held it back out to her. "Not saying you don't know how to write checks or anything, but I think you put one too many zeros on it." She must have, especially saying that it wasn't much so nonchalantly. He turned his attention to the piece of paper next, looking up at her in question as she told him it was her phone number. His brow rose again at that, his lips quirking automatically. "Ah, of course." His eyes practically glittered as he put the paper in his pocket. He followed her to the front door then, casting Townsend a friendly smile as well when he saw him. At her farewell, he smiled back. "You, as well, Adelaide." He turned his gaze to Townsend. "I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning, sir. Till then." He nodded his head to him before turning to head to his bike. He couldn't stop thinking about the extra sparkle in Adelaide's eyes as he walked to the harley. She was up to something. As he got on his bike and started it up, he took a moment to sit there, before he remembered the note in his pocket. Pulling it out, he unfolded it and was surprised to see a note written on it as well as her number. Meet her tonight? Eleven o'clock? She really was a rebellious one. He swallowed, reading it through again to make sure he had read it right, before his eyes drifted back up to the house. No wonder she had that sparkle in her eyes. He chuckled to himself, shaking his head as he folded it up and put it back in his pocket. "I'll be here, Adelaide." He whispered to himself more than anything else, looking at the house as he revved his engine and then took off down the road, heading back to his hotel. He should have enough for a good apartment with just that paycheck alone. Maybe he should go hunting later tonight. For now, he needed to go cash the check and get some food. His stomach growled at just the thought. |
