That flight to New York was decidedly empty in comparison to what he thought it would be, given the holidays and all that. However, with a winter storm upon the horizon, it seemed as if more people were inclined to leave the city for places of warmth then return to that winter wonderland. It surprised Sterling, how much he missed those feet of snow that had restricted them to their apartment together for days on end. Finding a taxi from the airport was particularly difficult and yet, as they drove through those streets of New York, Sterling could hardly help the sensation of deja vu that so hit him like a veritable wave, nearly making his headache with the familiarity of those streets he'd once walked down as his own and had, in turn, also forgotten. It felt more akin to a dream, that life he'd previously had here and that simple sensation alone saw him scoot closer towards Henry, somehow seeking comfort in his boyfriend's presence even though it was hardly necessary to do so. That taxi drive from the airport to what had once been their luxurious flat in upper Manhattan seemed to take far too long then he remembered it being and yet, as the pair tumbled out of the car and onto the sidewalk, Sterling couldn't help that knot of nervousness that had balled in the pit of his stomach.
His own nearly empty suitcase wheeled behind him as he followed his lover into that stark marbled lobby, offering a weak simper to that doorman who only stared at them with astonishment. It had clearly been some time since they had been here and their absence had apparently been noted by the building's staff. Thankfully, they escaped without having to deal too much with small talk. Sterling followed Henry into the elevator, using those moments to so lean his head against his boyfriend's shoulder with a soft yawn. They'd had to wake up particularly early to catch their flight and the lack of sleep was entirely catching up with him. It was that ding, however, that so saw Sterling move, following Henry down that same familiar hallway only to pause in front of that same door they'd stopped in front of countless times before. How much past that door had changed since he last saw it? Had Henry kept things as they had been when they'd broken up or was it all...different now? Frankly, he wasn't sure which one it preferred.
