He so desperately wants to sleep in.
But, that isn't really an option anymore.
The tiny red and white Aussie shepard looking dog snuggled in his arms suddenly starts to wiggle around fiercely, turning her tiny body she extends her tongue and begins to lick the face of the young until he finally opens amber eyes to look into hers. "Give me a minute," he sighs in his voice still full of sleep. But it seems the little bundle of fur had other plans. She continues wriggle in his arms until she breaks free. "Alright, alright," he says as he shifts his weight and brings his feet onto the floor of his apartment. The puppy dances around his feet, and he huffs a single note of laughter, thinking it reminded him of the potty dance one of his little sisters used to do. Quickly, before he would end up on hands and knees scrubbing his floor (again.) he through a pair of sweatpants over his boxers he had slept in and zips a hoodie over his bare chest before scooping up the young dog and hurrying her downstairs and out his apartment door.
Time like these he wishes he was on the first floor instead of the third.
Breath frosts in the cool morning air as he watches his companion sniff around for what seems like ages before she finally relieves herself and the boy and dog pair are able to head back inside. "Good girl, Des," he says, scratching behind her ear with one hand while he held her with the other. She licks his face in response as he pushes open the door to their quaint home.
Before Des (short for Desdemona, Benjamin was a sucker for a good heroine), Benji would take his time getting ready on a morning he didn't have school or had a later starting class. But now, after having this little girl for a few weeks, he was an early riser and quick to get ready. He had developed a sort of routine. Wake up, take Des out, brush teeth, brush hair, throw on some what presentable clothes, make a quick cup of coffee in the to go mug and head out the door to take Des for her morning walk. He grabs the red collar from the hook by the door and attaches the matching red leas before opening the door and locking it behind them.
Des pulls him, though it isn't very strong due to her size, still, she wasn't very good at walking on the leash. Constantly pulling, going over to everyone to say 'hi.' Honestly, it was exhausting, but he loves her anyway. The pair make their way to Hyde Park. A park Benji has seen and heard of many times, but hadn't had an actual reason to visit until now. Maybe he could even let the puppy off the leash for a little while and let her run around? They move at a brisk pace until they are finally engulfed in the mature trees that line the pathways. It felt good to be away from all the craziness of the city, all the concrete. He could breathe here. Amber eyes look around for any sign of squirrels or rabbits. Des was good off leash, she listened rather well, but sometimes instinct seemed to take over and she would go chasing after one of the little forest critters. Not that she would ever catch one.
"Ok, now be a good girl and stay close," he says to her as he undoes her leash from her collar. Benjamin pulls a mini pink tennis ball from his pocket. He saw it at the store the other day and it seemed like the perfect size for his pup. Perfect for practicing fetch. Reaching his arm back, he brings it flying forward and releases his pitch, sending the ball flying and the little dog chasing after it. A smile touches his face because there really is no one happier than a boy with his dog.
