South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Ashton only chuckled lightly at the child's antics, having never been given sand in exchange for a handshake. But it was an endearing little gesture and Ashton accepted it as the best handshake he'd ever received. The child was adorable and her actions sincere. He watched her toddle back to her sandcastle and after dropping the sand back on the beach, he wiped his hand on his swim trunks before turning back to the child's mother.

She comments on his accent and he is quick to tell her he's from a small town in South Carolina. He can see the puzzled expression on her features and he nodded his head lightly. "I grew up along the coast. While it's not the beaches of Hawaii, Florida, or California, the waves are good enough for surfing. I must admit, these waves are far better." Again, they were not the large waves people often thought of when surfing, but they did allow him to get some time on his board. Perhaps some day he may be able to travel to California and experience the giant waves that people often think about.

He asked about where in Europe she had been, only meaning to have polite conversation. He had no ulterior motives, no malice at all in his questions. He was just wanting to learn more about Europe from someone who had been there. "It sounds like a lovely place." It truly did sound amazing and beautiful. Perhaps one day he might have the ability to go and see that part of the world.

However, something that wasn't lost on him was her mention of a boyfriend. He saw the two children at her side and he had assumed that she was married. Where he was from, children came after marriage. However, she mentions a boyfriend â€" meaning she was unmarried. Was he the father of her children? Was she a divorcee? A widow? But he asked none of this, of course. It wasn't his place. However, he was learning that this place had a different set of morals and values people lived by. It was shocking when he first arrived, but he was adjusting. Even Malia had a hard time accepting his values. Perhaps one day she might understand them.

However, Nadya's voice disrupted his thoughts and he looked back to see the child trying to get into his cooler. He only smiled, the child's antics pulling on his heartstrings. He watched the child storm off and for a moment, he wondered if he would ever have children of his own. He loved children and he had always wanted a wife and a family. Perhaps one day he might have that. "Children are God's gift to us." He smiled softly, thinking back to how much he wanted a family. Would he find love here? He hoped so.

When she asks him what brought him here, he sighed. "Adventure, I suppose." While he could have chosen any other place to venture to, truthfully it had been this places collection of weres that had drawn him. He longed for that pack companionship â€" something he had yet to find here. "I just needed to leave my family's cattle farm." He had a lot of problems in his life revolving around his family â€" the only pack he ever knew. He was searching for something...something bigger. "And you? Are you from here?" Might as well engage in polite conversation.
