South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Oralee brushed her hand over one of the myriad of cardboard boxes that were stacked here and there in the little room that was now hers. Looking out the window barely obscured by folding blinds, she sighed. It was the young fae's first time away from home, and it was a little bit scary, but at the same time, Ori couldn't deny her excitement at the prospect of a new place to explore. After taking a moment to observe the small dormitory, the fog that built up in Ori's mind from having concentrated so long on unpacking and her desire to get out became unbearable. Now, she knew that procrastination was a bad habit, but the state of everything dictated that she take a break. After all, she was no good to anyone if she felt like a mindless zombie after a day of moving and taking her belongings out of their boxes.

She stretched a bit before heading outside to get her bearings and learn some landmarks. The air outside was beginning to become crisp, and the cooler breezes let everyone know that autumn was on the rise. It was still warm enough to justify the short-sleeved shirt that Ori was wearing, but every so often the wind would sweep by with the cold bite that was perfect for a warmer day in early autumn.

At first, the teenager's wandering was random, allowing her feet to take her where they may, but, as she saw signs pointing towards a park, a smile formed on dusty rose lips as she followed them. Parks were always beautiful, and it was amazing that there was one so close to where her new boarding school was. There were so many shopfronts and the architecture and general coziness reminded Ori of a town near where she had grown up, where she and her parents would go when she had been a good girl and the need for them to run errands had coincided with one another.

Upon reaching the grounds declared as Hyde Park, green eyes filled with light and wonderment. The flora stretched almost as far as the eye could see, and the laughter of children rang through the air. The sweet sounds and sights left Ori grinning from ear to ear as she brushed a strand of blonde hair from out of her face. Those ears of hers always had to remain hidden, as her mother had instructed, but Ori always found herself double-checking to make sure she didn't brush her hair back too far, since her mother had always told her that was the biggest risk to her identity. Once, as a young girl, she had accidentally put her hair behind her ears, and the students who caught it in the locker room had made fun of her, of course, none of them knew what it meant, but it was serious enough that mother had pulled her out of school and homeschooled her the rest of the year. Upon asking why, her mother told her that she was different from the other children, and that when others don't understand something, they tease it and make fun of it because they are afraid of it, even when it's something beautiful. In time, Ori came to understand where her mother's fears truly came from, but thankfully, back then, none of the other children were looking to kill fairies.

But this time, the move from schools was purely because of her good performance. Nothing had slipped this time, and the prestigious boarding school had approached her parents about letting their daughter go to the academy in Sacrosanct, to which Ori had been hesitant at first, but her parents' beaming smiles and pride as well as assurance that she would be fine and it would be worse for her to miss this opportunity than stay home and worry about them. Ori, always one for adventure, after making absolutely positive her mother and father wouldn't miss her too much, left for her junior year of high school in Sacrosanct.

After wandering around the vast park for a time, Ori took up a spot near a fountain that would be shut off as soon as the weather became too chilled, but for the time being, the stone contraption let loose a wonderful shower of water that bloomed from its top and cascaded down to the foot. Out of her messenger bag, the girl pulled out a book that she had left off at only page 10, and continued reading, assuring herself that she would return to her dorm with enough time to at least unpack her bedsheets and everything she needed to get some rest before her debut in her new school tomorrow.
