Eyes opened abruptly. The blinding sunlight made the male squint as his eyes tried to adjust to the sudden assault of the sun. As his eyes slowly flickered open, Henry looked around him, confusion washing over him like it had been there his whole life. As he took in the scene of a beautiful park during the fall, Henry tried to figure out where he was. A normal person would remember walking into a park and sitting on a bench. But from the looks of it, Henry had been here for some time. His body was covered in the fall leaves of fall. Brushing off the multitude of colored leaves, Henry tried to pinpoint just where he was. He was getting a little frightened. He didn't recognize this place...in fact, he didn't recognize anything. The only thing he seemed to remember was his name: Henry.
Standing, Henry started to brush off the leaves when he felt something fall to the ground with a tale tale "tink" as it hit the pavement. Looking down, he saw the remnants of what was once in his lap:" a half-smoked pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Apparently he was a smoker. How could someone forget something like that? With each passing moment, Henry was getting more and more concerned with this sudden amnesia that seemed to wash over him like the warm water of a shower.
Picking up the package of cigarettes, Henry pulled one from the package and settled it between his lips. Flicking the lighter to life, he placed the butt of the cigarette to the flame and puffed until the cigarette was lit. It was like riding a bike. The task seemed to come no naturally to Henry that it must be something he was used to doing. Closing the lid to his Zippo lighter, Henry nestled it back in his pocket along with the remaining carton of smokes.
As the chill of the morning air whipped down the front of his shirt, Henry zipped up the hoodie he wore and draped the hood over his head. The weather was nice for an autumn day, but it was still a bit chilly. Henry would need to figure out where he lived here soon. He couldn't stay out in this cold forever. Eventually night would fall and the temperature would plummet. Looking ahead, Henry noticed there was another young man not far from him. Walking towards them, he tried to rehearse what he was going to say. He was going to sound completely insane. After all, who ends up in a park and has no clue how they got there? Surely this young man would think he was on drugs.
Coming to a stop a respectful distance from the young man, Henry cleared his throat to get the man's attention. "Excuse me? I have a strange question for you." Henry waited until he had the other's undivided attention. Well...here goes nothing..."Can you tell me where I am?" All this strange shit was giving Henry a headache. Too bad he didn't have any Excedrin to help him out. In light of this, he took another puff of his cigarette, careful to blow the smoke away from the other.
