East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I could never Forget something so Precious

I knew it wasn't going to be easy. But I also knew I could never prepare myself for the magic of her presence. The man she speaks to is the first to recognize me as I recognize him. Earl Rigby, a regular at the pub. He likes to come and vent about his old lady when we both know he adores the ground she walks on. And he knows well how I feel about Isolt. I never had to tell him; he merely had to look at the stars in my eyes every time she would walk into the room. He would chuckle knowingly and shake his head every time. When he calls my name, I lift a hand and nod my head in greeting, my lips crinkling only a little at the corners though they're quick to tighten into a firm line as I suck in a deep breath I'll never need.

She stands slowly as if in a dream, her ice blues turning to me in the slowest manner imaginable. I am both eager for them and dreading the moment our gazes will lock, knowing I'll see her pure heart breaking at the sight of me after all this time. I know I have a lot of groveling ahead of me but first I have to get past the first impression, the first sight of each other, the first words shared. That is, if she shares any with me at all.

I didn't expect her to come to me so when she takes a single step, my heart leaps with slim hope that she'll run and leap into my arms, the reunion of love tales as ours should be. But of course reality is not as such so instead she turns from me and walks to the office that used to be mine. I stand there for a moment, my gaze casting to the well polished foor of the pub. I can sense the tension in the air, the confusion of the customers though I know I'm picking up on disappointment and even downright disgust from the more judgemental ones. I'm sure they've been piecing together stories of their own, legends of me running off with another woman or going off to chase my dreams. In another time my fangs would be itching to extend, the mercy stripped from my eyes as I tear open their jugulars and show them just what judgement day looks like.

New resolve washes over me and I know I must follow her. I couldn't do anything else. To leave again would be to wash everything we've ever been through down the drain and I could no more forget her than my own day of rebirth. She is every bit a part of me as my brother or my maker. And so my feet find her path easily, following the well beaten trail to my office. I can already hear her breathing hard within and my heart aches for her. My hands tremble a little, wanting so dearly to wrap around her and pull her close, to tell her everything's going to be okay. But first I know I have to actually speak to her and that's going to be the hard part.

As she looks up at me, my eyes pale in more innocent desires, those of wanting to hold her and comfort her. But not yet. My face falters even more as I see the verge of tears in those beautiful blues, my world splintering apart at the thought of the pain I must have caused her at my expense. And the word to fall from her lips is the one I knew I would hear. I take a deep breath, a heavy sigh letting it out before I turn to slowly close the door and give us some well needed privacy. I know there will be listening ears but I made sure to put in some charms on this office that do better than soundproof walls. No supernatural ears can hear what is said in here.

I slowly turn to her, my eyes struggling to meet her own as I lean back against the door, not daring to step toward her for fear that she might decide this is a bad idea and flee. "I...didn't want you to follow me. I couldn't have you in harm's way." Knowing that won't be nearly enough, I chew on my bottom lip for a moment before I continue, running a hand through my hair as I look toward the picture on the wall across from me, a picture of Red on the Water in it's early days when we first opened it. There we are at the front door, all smiles with my arm around Isolt's waist, pulling her close to me, like she was meant to be there. I ache for that moment again, when everything was simple and sweet. "After you were kidnapped by that vampire, I started hearing whispers....rumors about the flame haired vampire with the innocent soul. Knowing exactly who they were talking about, I tracked them back to a fairy named Zeke. After some extent of 'persuasion,' he told me about a coven in Benghazi, a powerful group of witches that call themselves The New Eden. They promote a prophecy of a redhaired vampire with sky blue eyes, a vampire that will change the supernatural world forever."

My eyes find hers in this moment, wanting her to understand above all that I did it for her, for us. "The New Eden believes that this vampire will somehow have a child and that child will be their definition of Eve, a decision of fate. The child will either be pure good or pure evil. That part isn't written in stone. They want the child to raise as their own so they planned to kidnap the vampire and hold her until she gives birth then kill her. They were using other supernaturals to track her down....and they had come here, to Sacrosanct. They were looking for you, Isolt. I tracked them down but they have powerful charms against outsiders. They caught me and kept me captive. They....have powerful magic. They left me on the edge of mummification, letting me starve while pumping vervain through my veins to keep me sedated." I slowly pulled a sleeve back to show her the scars on the inside of my elbow. "It won't heal properly now, where they stuck the needle in. I'm guessing something in the poison scars a vampire's flesh."

I shook my head, my gaze dropping to the desk now, staring past the stacks of accounting paperwork on the surface, the boring things I used to take care of so she could spend more time chatting with customers because I knew that's where she wanted to be. "I was there a long time. I lost track of time. But one night they made a mistake and I jumped on it. They didn't check the bag of vervain before they switched shifts and it ran low. When the vervain stopped flowing, I felt some of my strength returning and I used it to pull the needle from my arm. Then I started insulting the guard, anything to piss him off enough to make him come check on me, get close enough. I drained him dry and used his energy to get out of my tomb. I don't know how many witches I took out but I found as many as I could. I wanted to take out their numbers, make them rethink their plan to come here. I can't have them come here. I'll kill every one of them before I let them touch you."

My gaze slowly lifts back up to hers, my voice already gravelly with emotion I've never felt before she came into my life. "I'm sorry I left like that. I'm sorry I didn't let you know but I couldn't have you trying to come save me. I didn't want you anywhere near them. It's my job to save you, not the other way around. It's the job that I signed up for the moment I laid eyes on you at that concert and had a hotdog with you on that bench."
