East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Standing on the edge;

Oliver Burton

He left that heavy wooden door to his office opened, knowing very well his quietude would be soon destroyed. Everything about the man was entirely private and usually closed. He often relished in that closed sound proof door. The woman who usually took care of interns and the like was of on maternity leave and wouldn't be back for the next few months and he had yet to find a replacement. He found himself doing extra tasks that he wouldn't normally do, he had already put extra work on the secretary's plates and between himself and the whoever else he delegated it to would have to do. It made the business man a little extra prickly lately. A little more short, gruff, on edge. He had already shifted in the middle of the downtown core, just a few blocks away a few weeks ago. He was barely lucky to still be alive, lucky some stray hunter didn't shoot him dead right then and there. He would have deserved it to. He should have taken better care to be well fed, and not neglected that bear which dwelled just beneath the surface.

Now, he didn't entirely know what to expect with the appointment with this possible intern candidate. It had been what? Five years since he interviewed one. He didn't have many expectations anything, as like most interns they were inexperienced. He was entirely surprised at the youthful little creature that calmly struts into his large office announcing her presence, confident. He was used to the coy, the fumbling, the nervous. He didn't bother to stand but he gestured an idle hand toward the chair across from him, his stern dark rich brown, assessing eyes settling upon the young woman. "You must be Kathryn Murphy. Take a seat." His baritones slid across the space between them, flooding the room with his English accent laced within every word. He had read her resume, he would not entertain a soul without one, she was inexperienced, but then again that was the point of this job. To get a taste of the business world. She was at the very least dressed for the job and possessed a way about her that placed her different than the rest.

He toyed with the cuffs of his formal dark grey collared, fitted button-down shirt. He hated how hot business formal wear was in the summer. But like his ivory white fur as a bear, he kept in meticulous shape.

He didn't know how he missed it before, but there was a magical signature dancing in the air around her. He drew in her scent, curious as to what she was, but he could distinctly smell something. Nothing slipped passed his predator's nose. It was like he could smell that silvery blood that flowed through her veins, but he was truly unaware of what she was. He hardly associated with many creatures to being with, so meeting a non-were was an entirely a rare exception. His office comprised of 98% mortals. He hadn't met very many witches or warlocks.. His last experience was rather one he would like to forget. He had been on the end of that fire magic he was wielding. He hated that magic that assaulted him, hated the way it crawled, assaulting his skin like acid. But this magic, it felt different, perhaps because it wasn't directed at him, perhaps those powers were not used for bad. He wasn't sure, he knew little of this young witch. He watches her closely, attentive and assessing every movement the jet black-haired woman made.

There was no need for formalities as that was already out the way. "Let's begin." He doesn't really let any room for frills or questions. He had a domineering personality and was quite to the point, which made it all the more easy to dive right in. He hated wasted time. "Tell me about yourself and what led you here, of all the businesses, why choose this one?" Was she aware of what they were about, was she aware of him? He tests her in his own strange way, to see what she knew and what she didn't. What kind of person she was. Was she a liar? He could smell a lie a mile away. But her magic was overpowering. Was she hungry to work her ass off? Because when working for him, she would be working hard. She would also be working for a challenging bear of a man with a terrible temper who often found himself on the wrong side of the bed. But this business he forged was truly remarkable in its own right. He built buildings unlike any other, that one could easily pick out that certain style. But it wasn't just that, unlike so many others, he did it in such a way that respected the environment, incorporated nature within every one of his projects. He did a lot of charity work, very few knew that about the business savvy man. Although, it wasn't in the normal sense where he helped the impoverished. He helped preserve the environment, helped save endangered species like the polar bear and others that direly needed saving. The creatures who didn't have a voice. He didn't cut corners, he did his best to ensure anything he created would cause no harm to the creatures around it.

You could tell a lot about a person based on how they talked about themselves, he would know instantly if he liked her or not. Would she talk herself into her own grave or would she impress him? It was yet to be seen. His handsome face remained unreadable. He hated interviews with a passion. He hated how it lacked any kind of real emotion, not that he showed much. It was all so formal. He knew his sister would tease him now, would laugh at how serious he had become and yet this was the man he needed to be. This was how he obtained power, true power. It was supposed to keep her safe, keep him safe. Although, lately he was failing miserably at that.
