East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

so why'd you have to rain on my parade?

I'm shaking my head. I'm locking the gates.

Samantha needed a break.

All of these reunions with old friends had turned out to be entirely draining. She knew, of course, how many people she had harmed by leaving Sacrosanct so abruptly two years ago. But she had been ill prepared for exactly what it would be like to see all those people again and to face what she had left behind. It had been exhausting to feel the emotions of everyone as she had come back into their lives just as abruptly as she had left. Though she didn't doubt that those people would inevitably forgive her, she still had to deal with how guilty she felt about it to begin with.

Samantha had decided today would be a day for herself. All of this sadness as she entered Sacrosanct again would be put aside for today, and she would take some time to fall in love with the city that had been her home once more. She'd started out her day by heading to the Eastern district and to the coffee shop she so often frequented since returning to the city. The bakery almost always smelled of cinnamon rolls and caramel. It was heavenly, and Samantha found herself ordering a coffee and a cinnamon crunch bagel. With her treats in hand, she settled in a chair near the window. The natural light made the spot all the more enticing. It was an actual warm day for once in early March, and the sunshine seemed to brighten her mood. Or well, almost as much as her novel had.

She wouldn't stay here all day, she promised herself. She would let herself live in the land of books for an hour or so, and perhaps she would walk along the docks in the Western district. Or find herself at the park - the one that didn't have the iron monkey bars. Or maybe she'd go shopping in the northern parts of town. The day was full of possibilities, and she didn't want to waste any of the sun-soaked hours. Still, for now she would enjoy her coffee and her novel. Today, she'd snatched The Great Gatsby off her bookshelf and tucked it into her bag. Now, she would allow herself to dive into a novel that reminded her so much of her upbringing in New York City. Though she'd returned briefly to the city during her two years away, she would never quite shake the homesickness that she felt whenever she thought of New York. Even New York as it existed in a novel from so long ago.

Sam had lost herself in her novel for too long, enjoying the tale of Nick and Daisy and the illusive Gatsby. She barely noticed the jingles of the door opening and closing. No, she was so focused that she didn't notice the familiar fae walk in until she heard her name on his lips. She glanced up from the book, her eyes blinking to focus on the figure hovering over her. Oh. She was surprised to see Troy, and yet the genuine smile that erupted on her features could not be contained.

"Troy," She said as she stood. She wanted to embrace him, and yet the tension and shock in his form kept her in place. Troy was on her list of those to seek out, though she hadn't gotten to him quite yet. "Troy, it's so nice to see you."

this is why we can't have nice things
