"Come on, pick up, pick up..." He silently begged the phone as it continued to ring and ring. Why wasn't she answering? This was the seventh day that Taylor had tried to call Adelaide's phone and it went to voicemail. Was something wrong? Did something happen to her? He'd gone by her house on the second day she didn't answer. He knocked on the door but no one ever answered and he was puzzled by the lack of barking dogs on the other side. Did she go out of town? Possibly back to her parents? Did her butler come back for her? All these what-if's in his head but Taylor dreaded the idea of never seeing or hearing her voice again. Was this what he was reduced to? Had he fallen for someone just to lose them? Running his hand through his hair, the man shook his head before finally throwing his phone with vengeance at the garage wall. It shattered on impact and he sighed. Great, now he had to buy another one. That's what he got for losing his temper. He'd never been ghosted before, especially not by someone he was in a serious relationship with. Since he'd only ever had two of those in his life, it wasn't looking good. Deciding he needed to do something instead of pacing around, Taylor got on his Harley and revved the engine, his body melting a little at the purr of the engine. A bike had a certain way of calming him, but tonight, he needed more. Pointing toward the road, he pulled out and let the engine roar as he took off, heading out of town. He was about half a mile from the end of the city limits when a deer or something akin to it suddenly stepped out in the road. "Hey, watch out!" He shouted, flapping his arm in a gesture to try to make the animal move, but it only turned its head to look at him. He knew he couldn't break in time so he gritted his teeth as he turned the bike sideways, making it slide down the road as it went down on its side (and his leg). He still didn't know if he was going to be able to stop in time not to hurt the animal, though... |
