The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I guess I managed to get lucky today for when I call out to the stranger, there's only a slim hope that she will in fact play along. When she turns to me, I can see the surprise widening her bright blues but as she takes in the woman on my heels, she seems to correct herself, giving me a familiar smile that meets her eyes as she comes toward me. I applaud the woman, she's a brilliant actress. She slips her arm around my waist and my skin prickles at the warm contact but I explain to her in my softest voice what's going on though I'm sure she'll have already figured it out by now. She even leans against me and for a moment I can forget that she's probably recoiling in distaste on the inside. Again, good actress. She's a witch; I can smell the metallic of magic in her blood from here. Usually her kind look down upon mine as inferior. I wonder if she shares that same opinion. As she looks at the woman, she gives her a charming smile and I feel myself being charmed as well. I bet she's got quite the personality. I chuckle lightly at her comment. "Well I know how you are about your powder room breaks." I shrug it off as if a woman's trips to the bathroom to freshen up are commonplace. Her second comment about the tip makes my lips curl with a new form of amusement since I'm sure she knows the woman is not an employee. She looks at me as if trying to figure me out with one glance and my blue gray eyes sparkle with a new mischief. I'd have to give her serious props if she could pull something like that off. The lady finally makes a sound in her throat, something like derision and turns away and I'm left with the witch who played along. I bring a hand back, combing it through my unruly dark hair as I offer a charming smirk of my own. "Thanks for that. Guess I owe you. You hungry?" |
