East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Nadya points out some things she calls condiments up by a wall. I glance over that way in curiosity but since it would mean getting further away from her and getting closer to strangers who are hanging out right there to add stuff to their own cups, I duck and shake my head in decline, thinking I'd rather stick close to her with black coffee than wander off on my own. At her comment, I nod meekly.

"Okay."

I watch her drink her own coffee, making sure she doesn't make a face or anything of distaste. Surely she wouldn't lure me into drinking something bad, would she? I put the cup to my nose, taking a whiff before I gingerly lift it to my lips. The first taste is almost bitter sweet but as it slides down my throat, I taste more of the bitter than the sweet and my face contorts some, my eyes closing as I try not to grimace too badly. When I reopen my eyes, I look back at Nadya.

"It's...um...interesting."

I try to change the subject by asking about her pack and she hesitates a moment as if not sure how to respond. I tilt my head, wondering what her pack is like. Surely they must be nicer than my own pack. When she pushes something across the table to me, I hesitantly reach out for it, bringing it to my nose to sniff. It smells rich and sweet and oh so tempting so after a questioning look at her to make sure she doesn't want some first, I take a tentative bite. My eys instantly light up as I chew on the chocolatey goodness. Wow, it's so good! I smile at her, chewing and swallowing before I speak.

"What do you call this?"

I'd never had anything like it before. I watch as she messes with her cup before answering, saying her pack is nice. I listen with interest now, taking another bite of the chocolate as she tells me that she has a brother and his friend. I nod my head. It must be nice to have a brother, someone you know will protect you out of blood ties if anything else. She goes on after a minute of contemplation, telling me that they grew up together but my face falters when she says that her birth pack got killed. I gasp before I can stop it, my hand flinging up to cover my mouth. Then she tells me that they got separated but found each other again and I try to smile.

"Well...at least you found them again. I'm...sorry about your birth pack."

I feel it's only polite to say, no matter whose fault it was.
