East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The shop was clearly a comfort source for the woman, judging by her posture and her clear dedication to her work. The scars on her arms wove a story I was suddenly all to eager to trace my fingers over and dissect, contemplate the story woven on her skin. Granted, that's probably unprofessional as fuck, but was it professional to use your blood in a potion for a man you didn't know? Okay, probably. My brow rose all by it's skeptical self when she said it was the nature of her work. My work often took me down similar roads, however my blood was never necessary unless we were talking about spells. And even then? Someone else's blood would suffice. I fought the urge to grit my teeth, to take her hand and berate the clean lines on her wrist, but then again...

She was clearly an artist, and her work spoke for itself in every story of it's success.

"Your dedication is obvious," I said, unable to hide the amusement in my voice or the way my eyes carefully but quickly eyed each of the luminous scars. Scars had always intruiged me; they were like etchings of life events, souvenirs of the past in a way you can't get rid of it.

Was work really that important to her? ... Was this job as important to me as it should have been? Oh wait, that... Fuck, fuck this timing.

I guess her work wasn't, because she relented and pointed to the place where she kept her keys to the shop. I guess my With several short instructions, Serafina had told me to shut off the lights, grab her keys, and become a phenomenon by making the world stop spinning. Funny, here I was thinking it always spun madly on. I reached for her keys, picking up her bag as well to shoulder it and return to Serafina's side, only to find her forehead pressed against my chest in a surprisingly familiar fashion. Familiar in a desperately comfortable, longingly sweet way. Granted, it was probably the blood loss but somehow even the sincerity of the way she reached for me pressed right up on my knight in shining armor button.

"I'll bet you're a lightweight, yeah?" I felt the smile creep back into my voice. "Lights off, I have your keys and bag. Do you think you can manage the whole one-foot in front of the other thing?"

I took the initiative, instead, hoping that an arm around her waist would keep from a broken ankle, or a face plant onto the pavement once we'd gotten there. I left my hand in her's, pausing to lock the door behind us before returning that arm around her waist to keep her stable. Her body was pressed lightly against my side, somehow incredibly innocently. I left my arm there, knowing it was more stability than the way she'd originally linked her arm through mine. The way she reached for me properly kept the smile in place, very obviously wrecking the façade I'd had earlier.

"And if I am? Fairy tales don't happen right outside your door. But I am sorry, the carriage turned into a pumpkin a little while ago. On foot from here." The walk wasn't going to be far, even if I was helping, at least we could get a cab once we were off of the side street. "Look, there's an empty cab there. They're -," I didn't wait, and instead flagged them down myself. Opening her door to help out, I waited for her to get in the car before slipping into the other side to tell the driver where to go. The restaurant was one of the better ones in town, rated high by some absurd critique or whatever it is that does that, but the idea of taking this girl who had just made me a death potion to the nicest restaurant around as an accomplice made my smile broader, and helped me turn my attention to her instead of the rode.

"I hope you're a fan of oysters and over-priced wine."
