East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

His position was perfect, to further fuel the destitution. From his seat he could easily study the rest of the café, watching Avi make her way through her meagre meal, it took all of his willpower to remain in his seat â€" it would do no good slinking over to the "staff area" just to harass her, and the look Emily had given him did not go unnoticed, he wasn't particularly welcome after the last time.

Tattooed fingers laced around the steaming mug, he lowered his gaze to the dark liquid â€" focusing on it entirely, soaking in the warmth through his hands as much as he soaked up the sun through the window. The disturbance in the air around him that followed the click-click of heels caught his attention, but he remained in outward appearances, oblivious to her presence. Her scent was delicate, almost sweet, but not overpowering so â€" a stark contrast to the smoky, sulphurous undertones that coated Avicus.

Elbows propped on the table, he raised the mug to his lips, drinking slowly, almost measured in how much he would take to ensure an appearance of normality, as though he merely came here for this drink. The girl opposite him finally broke the silence, but it was still a few moments before he really regarded her. Instead he took his time, lowering the mug and releasing it, as the heat of the drink coiled in his stomach and the sun streaming through the windows warmed his flesh, he shrugged the heavy leather jacket from his back, for once he hadn't opted to coat himself in generous layers to combat the slightest chill sent his way.

Ian returned his hands to the mug, the simple white tshirt displaying the extensive artwork that coated his arms, breathing out through his nose, Ian's gaze finally rose to study the girl. Dark chocolate eyes focused on hers for a moment, until they flickered taking in the remaining necessary details. Shoulders rolling he shook his head slightly, as though he knew how odd it looked to be drinking such a warm drink at the height of summer. "Cocoa, I'm not a big coffee fan."

Only one hand grasped the mug at this point, the other lying flat on the table, though his constant awareness of Avi hadn't seemed to put the girl off, he made a point of reining it in and focusing on her. Though he was normally standoffish with new people before getting to know them, it was just plain rude to be so distracted. Thin lips quirk lightly at her offer as he takes another measured drink, shaking his head while he lowered the drink and swallowed his mouthful. "I'm fine, no one's butt needs kicking."

Ian did offer a smile at this point, perhaps not one of his brightest â€" but it was better than anything he had achieved so far and it warmed ever so slightly, to the point it reached his dark eyes. There was something strange about a seemingly well to do girl like herself, trying to look like Jackie Chan in a café booth. "So are you the new white knight of this city? Come to kick butts and maybe take names? Like Batman except better looking."

He was trying, that much was obvious â€" though the girl did make it easy on him to try. There was a warmth and brightness about her that was soothing in his otherwise dull and mopey existence. Perhaps she'd be good for him.
