![]() At least the ballerina was willing to indulge me, holding up her fingers as she confirmed that she was in fact trying to help my ego. I couldn't help but chuckle as I shook my head slowly. "Just as I thought." I murmured playfully. When I teased about our always meeting under hazardous conditions, Audette couldn't help but giggle and I knew to take that as agreement. When she asked about a normal meeting for coffee, my smile softened as I nodded. "I'd like that." Indeed, it would be nice to get to know her a little better when we're not running for our lives or taking down muggers. When the loud thud came at the door, she hurriedly tried to shoo me back home, but I told her I wouldn't leave her. I guess my shocked expression gave it away that I wasn't a married man, nor had I even thought that far along. I saw her own brows furrow in confusion. It probably didn't look so good on me, knocking someone up without putting a ring on their finger. I ran my hand through my hair sheepishly. Sam and I had been shopping for homes, but then she said she needed some space and left town. I was just waiting for word from her on when she was coming back. I couldn't let myself believe that there may be a chance that she doesn't return. Shaking my head of such thoughts, I turned back to Audette and the task at hand. She seemed convinced that I wasn't going anywhere when I brought up being a role model to my child, and when she asked what we should do, I took a look around the alleyway. My hunter days came back to me as I picked out certain objects around the alley. Thinking on my feet, I took my necklace off and put it on the ground right outside the door. Then I broke a piece of wood off an old pallet leaning against the wall and broke pieces off until it had a pointed(ish) end. Turning to Audette, I softened my expression. "Do you trust me?" Hoping I knew her answer, I asked her to stand at the end of the alley where the vampire would see her when he burst through the door. I was counting on his blood lust and her bleeding knee to help with the surprise factor. Once the vampire did push through the door, he glared at the woman right before his foot landed on my pure silver necklace. He howled in pain, hopping off the necklace and growling down at it. Twisting his head around at the noise behind him, the vampire was a second too late as my primitive stake drove into his chest. I pushed it in as hard as I could, only satisfied when the creature screamed and turned to ash. Wiping my hands of the ash before I bent down to get my necklace, I then turned my gaze back to Audette and offered another sheepish smile. "Does that work?" |
