Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
He knew he didn't have to apologize for not coming into the bistro every single night after work with Townsend but he still felt bad about it, like it was expected of him now. He always thought her even on his way home to pass out. She was was what kept him going every morning when he woke up. He knew Townsend was still testing him in a way with all the hard work but he didn't mind. He liked keeping himself busy and feeling like he accomplished something at the end of the day. He wondered if Adelaide was yearning to get away from it all, just the two of them, just as much as he was. That night on the hill was just a taste and he wanted more, much more. They'd either have to steal another night like that or he'd have to get a day off somehow and see if Adelaide could take off from the bistro so they could go on some sort of mini adventure. He could let her drive the Harley and they could go somewhere out of town, somewhere magical. He was already looking forward to it and they hadn't even talked about it yet. He was pretty healthy overall and had never had a weak immune system. He could count on one hand how many times he was sick as a child. He never got off from school, no matter how much he tried to fake it with his mom. She saw through him every time. Usually it just came down to a cold that lasted 2 days and he'd caught a stomach bug a couple times. Then there was maybe one case of the flu that kept him down for all of 4 days but he was restless and anxious. He hated being in bed, not able to do anything. He wondered sometimes if Adelaide thought about him when he wasn't there as much as he thought about her. Hell, he even dreamed about her when he got home to pass out sometimes. He couldn't look at another girl ever since he met her, let alone think about talking to or flirting with or dating anyone else. She was all he could think about. She was in his head and under his skin and he wouldn't have it any other way. He hated to think about the guys coming into the bistro, sure that they'd have to be blind not to notice Adelaide. The outfits she wore were always professional but anything looked sexy on her in his opinion. He wondered how many times she got hit on per day when he wasn't there. Hell, he'd even seen a few guys give her that look and smile even when he was there, and he was never too happy about it. She never acted flirty with any of the men there that he could see but he still felt his knuckles crack or his smile fall into a scowl every time he noticed a guy looking at her in a way unlike a polite customer. He hated that he couldn't just claim her already and take her off the market but he felt that would be unfair to her. Look at him and look at her. She was everything he wasn't. Successful and gorgeous and smart. He was a landscaper who was running from a loan shark and owed too many debts. He didn't want to drag her into that. He knew she was already in danger because of how he felt about her. Anyone who looked at them would know it, including any of Doug's goons if they were to show up. But he couldn't stop himself. He had to see her. He had to know her. It was on nights like this though that his inhibitions were a little more lax. He wasn't at work where he needed to be professional and he wasn't around Townsend where he had to watch himself. They weren't out in public which means he didn't have other sets of eyes to worry about it. It was just him and her in his apartment at night with a bottle of tequila and he knew he was already getting all the wrong ideas. Somehow they just felt so right. He knew she wouldn't let just anyone look at her the way he did but somehow she didn't seem to mind it when he did. He liked that she gave him permission to treat her as a woman and not just a successful business owner and a woman of status. He knew she had been burned in the past just like he was so she was just as hesitant to jump into anything too quick. She told him she would wait for him to be ready and it was on nights like this that he wished he could tell her right here and now that he was ready, ready to make her his. But he knew that would just be taking advantage of the situation and she deserved better. When she touched him, he couldn't help the way his body responded. He felt so calm with her touch and so at peace with the world. And yet his skin tingled with a fire that could only be tamed by her. His body craved hers like nothing else and his control was a little looser tonight but he was going to make himself behave. At least that's what he kept telling himself. Then her hands started traveling along his chest and down his stomach and he swallowed, his eyes drifting almost closed as a soft groan pushed past his lips. He turned his head to look down at her, raising a brow. "You planning on checking to see if I have hair anywhere else? Cause I believe you've already seen the upper half without having to double check." His lips quirked teasingly, his eyes glittering but they still had that dark lust glowing in the background. He couldn't help the way he felt about her and touching him like that was only making it worse. She was really pushing his limits tonight. He chuckled when she said that her and Townsend don't see eye to eye on everything. "Well, hopefully I can still change his opinion of me to more closely match yours....except the touching part. That might get weird." His eyes glimmered with humor as she moved past him to look around at the apartment. He hoped she didn't see it as too much of a dump. Then she turned to pretend to be hurt by his words before she moved back into his space. He saw the dare in those eyes and it made him have to catch his breath. Damn, she was so sexy when she was demanding. Even with just a look, she could bring him to his knees if she wanted to. He couldn't help the way he moved to brush her hand with his own as they both held the bottle for a moment and she told him that she would help him with drinking it if he wanted, adding on that she was all his tonight. He couldn't help the way his lips tugged into a happy smile at that, genuinely excited to have this time with her as he squeezed her hand before taking the bottle. "You've got it backwards. You're the one pulling the strings and you have been since that night at the burlesque." He raised a brow expectantly and chuckled again as he went to set the bottle down. He knew she responded to his breath on her ear. He could have sworn he felt her breath quicken but it could have just been something he wanted to feel from her. She told him he should cook for her sometime and he smiled and nodded. "Sure. My mom taught me a thing or two before I was run out of the kitchen. I warn you though, it's all greasy southern cooking and none of it's good for you." He smirked. He let her look around the kitchen and living room before leading her down the hallway. He noted that impish look on her face that always made his heart race as they went toward the bathroom and bedroom. He noted when she looked at the bathroom that for a split second, she looked surprised about something and he could only guess it was the size of the bathroom since her own was probably as big as his whole apartment. But she didn't comment on it, instead moving toward the bedroom. She walked in without hesitation, her fingers trailing across the dresser before she sat on the edge of the bed. He saw the daring smile on her lush lips and his own responded in kind, his eyes lighting up as he leaned against the doorframe. He chuckled and shook his head. "Oh, I do struggle, believe me. But all it takes is a reminder of who hired me and I know I'm done for." He smirked, watching then as she took her shoes off and moved up the bed to lay on his pillow. She commented on how comfy it was and he smiled. "I do like my sleep so only the best." He forced his legs to lock right where they were in the doorway. That look she was giving him was pure torture and it was taking everything he could not to go join her on that bed. But he knew if he gave in, it would only get worse and then there would be more tests on his self control. It was better if he just stayed right here. He just only hoped he could hold onto his control a little bit longer. |
