Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
Maybe he was more puppy than feline. The grace that had attached itself to his shoulders as he strode up the stairs disappeared as she finally agreed, a smile that she could call relieved breaking the planes of his face, making him handsome. Steeling her mind against such attraction (don't get involved, you don't know him... the voices warned), Avicus finally started to relax. Even in things went south, at least she could take advantage of the situation for a few weeks, save more money and start looking for a place of her own instead of one with a housemate. Grey eyes narrowed again, worried that he somehow was going to jerk the carpet out from underneath her and ruin her slowly-rising hope, but her hand met his in a firm grip, offering a faint smile. "I'm sure I could find you cake, once in a while. I'll have to see what the selection is though." She wasn't sure what made her extend the offer, never having experienced such kindness as he exhibited without there being a price to pay down the road, a point by which she planned to be on more secure footing and able to walk away if she needed to. It wasn't that she was uncertain, rather, viciously practical, prepared to look out for herself first, and then maybe consider helping others. Some foster parents told her it was an unattractive trait, that a lady should always put others before her own needs. Their concerns and admonishments had been met with knife-edged sneers and an empty bed come the next day. What was the point in staying with people who only wished her to be docile and biddable? She was a viper, and at least as a criminal, she knew the rules well enough to survive, if not thrive. Following him back downstairs, she couldn't help but wonder what else might evolve from the situation. It would be strange getting used to someone else's consistent presence in a shared space, the hush of quiet breaths invading a night that she was used to being occupied by vehicles passing through in search of other things. "Ian," His name cautiously tried on her tongue, hesitating before she reached the main floor, the ghost of worry back in the pale eyes, "I don't want to impose, but shouldn't we have some sort of agreement in writing? Like when I can use the kitchen or if you have a washer and dryer that I'm allowed to use?" It was the one thing the system taught her; have paperwork in place just in case things went wrong. Not that she would try and clout his authority as it were, but so that the lines in the sand were clearly drawn, and there would be no confusion. She half expected him to jump to agreement, but the other half anticipated a repeat of the reaction when she had initially inquired about rent. Confusion and shrugs, an airy wave of the hand and a suggestion of whenever. Perhaps he was the spoilt rich kid with a habit that he needed more income to support; it wasn't anything she was unfamiliar with. Time on the streets had made her understand the appeal of drugs and alcohol, but try as she might, she retained her mind and her relative sanity when she tried to escape. The angels' voices got louder, brought to the forefront, but when others had hangovers or slept for twenty-four hours after, she moved along in her routine. "Or not. I guess it doesn't really matter. Your house, your rules. Just let me know when to stay out of your way..." She slipped past him, squinting against the bright sunlight and crouching down beside the black bike to unhook her panniers, the cash for the rent buried deep inside them, underneath her clothes. The bags weren't that heavy, but balancing them over one shoulder and her backpack on the other, she looked more laden than her slender frame could support. Soon enough she'd have to buy ingredients for potions, further the knowledge Serafina lamented that she was woefully lacking in, maybe even a cauldron or a wand. Whatever it was that witches supposedly had. Not like she knew, or exactly believed. It was easier at night, to blame her powers on some twist of fate, like the actual parents she'd never known. "I'm assuming our agreement starts now?" so let me take this medicine, to quench my love for violent things |
