South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Truth be told, he hadn't realized that he'd never shared with her what his form was. She had already discovered that he was a were, and had subsequently discovered that he didn't like shifting in front of those that were not his pack. And yet, it hadn't occurred to him that he hadn't told her just what he was. It wasn't like he was keeping a secret form her.

When he realized that she was being serious and truly didn't know what a Great Dane was, he sobered up and cleared his throat. He looked at her with a soft smile, his southern accent deeper than ever. "A Great Dane is a breed of dog. It's tall and lean." He paused for a moment as he thought about exactly how he wanted to describe the canine part of him. "They are known to be lazy and prefer to sleep on couches over being active. But, they are loyal and fiercely protective of those they are bonded to." He would have chosen a Great Dane over other breeds anyway if he had been given the choice. He didn't necessarily need the strength or brawn of some breeds. He had always been more partial to breeds that were loyal. After all, loyalty meant a lot to him.

But alas, talking about what his other form consisted of was not exactly what they had come out here to do. She had wanted to learn to surf and he was going to teach her, even if it took him a few lessons in order to get things right.

However, something stopped her for a moment. He could see the look of questioning, the way the wheels in her head began to turn. Her question had him smiling. "Usually once the momentum of the wave leaves, you jump into the water. If you're lucky enough to have good balance, you may can ride it quite close to the beach, but that's not the norm. I can't do that." He wished he could do that a hair more gracefully, but he couldn't. He wasn't the best surfer and he hadn't won any competitions. He just enjoyed surfing and that was all that mattered to him.

As she continued to ride wave after wave, he began to see the progress she was making. She had started off the morning unable to even paddle on the board and already she was riding the waves. She was doing quite well and should be very proud of herself.

As she rode that final wave, he swam towards her, knowing that soon, she would fall and he wanted to be there to catch her, as he promised he would do. He was a little late swimming up to her after she resurfaced from her dismount, but he was still there and smiling sweetly at her. "You are doing quite well, Malia! Keep practicing and you will be good as gold." His accent thick, his expression soft.

He began to walk towards the beach, beckoning her to follow him. "Come, let's see about some lunch and putting on more sunscreen. You don't want to burn." He could already feel his skin burning, but luckily, he usually only tanned. Once up on the beach, he helped to unhook her from the board and he set the board upright in the sand. Handing her a towel, he grabbed once himself and began to dry off before he looked into the cooler. "I hope you like sandwiches." Ashton was a good 'ol southern boy, but he couldn't cook worth a damn. Sandwiches, spaghetti, and microwave dinners were about all he knew how to cook.
