South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Maybe this princess could save herself.

That sounds like a pretty good story too.

After the Fae girl had - or so she thought - lost Aiden, she'd thought she might shut herself off to the love that she'd found once. After all, that love had been so used against her. His enemies twisting her fears and emotions and creating those monsters that haunted her nightmares. It had been her love for him that had been a weakness, and her love that had caused her to lose him. And while maybe it was a bit drastic, Samantha had been hurt so intensely by that last meeting that she'd sworn off anything that lasted longer than a night. If she never got attached in the first place, she could certainly not get her heart broken - right? But then that dark-haired, green eyed Fae had wandered into her life that day in Sacrosanct and again in California and suddenly he was on her mind. Constantly. And now she was in this situation that so deemed that she would have him on her mind more and more and more.

She could so easily tell the man was nervous to see her. That made two of them. Not only did his body language give way to that anxiety, but it fluttered around him in that darkly colored aura that she so recognized. She remembered, vaguely, when she had first come to Sacrosanct and had been unable to understand the auras and emotions that she was blessed with reading. Now, years later, Samantha saw those auras and emotions as something so easily manipulated. It would take no effort on her part to twist those emotions until he was in love with her, or until he hated her completely, and yet Samantha would not do that. Sure, there had been a few moments with human boys when she'd been terribly lonely. A few moments of manipulating those emotions would make them fall into bed with her, and it made the mornings after so incredibly easy.

But Kit was different. Aiden's emotions had been locked away and so difficult for her to read in a way that made the empath incredibly uneasy. But not Kit. He wore his emotions and Samantha liked that she could so easily see what he felt. It made it so easy to trust him, to like him, to want him. And it was that that she thought about as he ordered from that barista. For a moment, she wondered if he thought the barista was pretty, but she was even more surprised to realize that she cared if he did. She wasn't sure when she began to think of Kit as hers - he most certainly wasn't - but the realization that he might like - or even love - someone else caused a small ache in her chest. And oh, he was talking to her. Samantha was so lost in her thoughts that she could barely manage to remember what he'd said to her - he had asked how she had been. God, what a loaded question right now.

That admittance that she'd so missed him was rather embarrassing, and yet she felt herself melt at that smile that spread across his features. Samantha quickly forced those feelings back. She couldn't handle letting herself get attached to him only for him to bolt at the first sign of trouble - which she was certainly about to give him. Samantha was immortal and she knew very well that she would spend her long life letting go of and losing the people she cared about. With that, it was easier to keep everyone at a distance. It was the very reason she had never reconnected with her parents after her transformation into the fae creature she was now. Why lose them all over again? But Samantha had no choice but to get attached to the small... thing... that existed within her, and it was only fair to let Kit know about the situation, even if she was so certain it wouldn't last. She didn't know much - well, anything - about fae pregnancy, but she knew that fae children were rare and that had only meant that she was certain this child would not live.

As the man across from her leaned forward, Samantha's blue eyes flicked up to meet his. How she wanted to just lean forward and change the subject into the feeling of his lips on hers. But that anxiety ate at her and instead she reached out to take his hand in hers. For a moment, she merely stared at her hand in his. Hers was so small and dainty by comparison to hers. When did she start to consider herself so safe around him? "Kit..." Samantha's fingers tightened on his, her gaze drifting up to meet his once more. "Kit, I'm pregnant."
