South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

Ascension Center of Equitation

The Ascension Center of Equitation is the epicenter of the Dark Hunter Cavalry Unit. Originally a high-class facility for show-jumping, Ascension now caters entirely to the Cavalry Unit. Here the Dark Hunters learn how to ride and fight upon the backs of horses - many of which are Were's themselves.

Hyde Park

Hyde Place takes up a large part of the Southern side of the city and includes a large playground, several fountains, and a small garden. The park is open from five in the morning till midnight though many shady characters may visit this place while it's technically "closed". The park has also been a venue for several concerts and hosts many holiday-related events. Under a full moon, witches are often seen here for the sacred ground beneath the iconic Weeping Beech.

Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium

The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) is an award-winning combined zoo and aquarium located within the Southern Part of Sacrosanct. Situated on 92 acres in Sacrosanct's Hyde Park, the zoo and aquarium are home to over 9,000 specimens representing 367 animal species. Point Defiance is also widely known for its conversation efforts regarding the breed and release program of Red Wolves.

The Outskirts

Beyond the city limits and over the bridge lies the deep, dark, and almost impenetrable forest. Often seen as a way to guard this magical city against the world that surrounds it, many are entirely ignorant of the evil that may creep between those tree trunks. Many were-creatures use the forest for the transformations of their newest members and some even take to hunting here. It isn't particularly peculiar for people to go missing within this forest but once you get through, the rest of the world awaits.

How does a man decide in what order to abandon his life?

I breathe in the crisp morning air, a barely visible plume of carbon dioxide escaping between my parted lips. I prefer this time of year, the inkling of autumn upon us. The weather is cooling down, but it isn't frigid enough to be dangerous just yet. It's colorful, usually. Or at least it was back in 'sota. People changed too, if only temporarily. As the trees shed their leaves, the farm town folk were able to shed their skin, taking a breather before the snow came and crops turned over. Everything seemed kinder, calmer, a step away from the rough looks and long nights that defined my hardened roots. That place seems like a fairy tale to me now. Something I read about only in books.

I am surprisingly optimistic this morning as the sun rises over the suburbs. I'm still finding flecks of dried blood under my fingernails and in crevices of skin in the palms of my hands. I hadn't expected that vampire to spray as much as he did before finally going down. But down he went. It had been weeks since my last hunt, so this one felt particularly good. Perhaps that too has contributed to my good mood. My hazel-colored eyes survey the sloping suburban streets with mismatching roofs and fall-themed wreaths on their front doors. My heavy boots break the silence and I clad along, looking for the nearest train station to take me back toward downtown.

I continue to stumble down the quiet streets until I find a business district of sorts. Most of the stores and restaurants are still shuttered, given the early morning hour. But I find a cafe and wander in, wanting to revel in my goof fortune. Another hunt down, and I am already anxious for the next one. I slide into a stool at the back bar. It faces the kitchen and I smile to a woman behind it who is quick to pour me hot coffee. I order eggs over easy, and wait for her to disappear before revealing a flask and adding a lil' extra to the cup in front of me. The lulls between assignments can be cumbersome and lonely. I've chosen this path because of my desire to work alone, but often my demons find me during the off hours. For example, the hangover from two nights ago still creeps at the edges of my brain, my skull pounding even now as I sip the coffee, which smells strongly of whiskey. I gulp it down fast and signal the waitress for more. The cool flask is gripped tightly in my hand underneath my jacket. It clanks against the knives hidden there. I know very well it will be what ends me. Not a vampire. Not a shifter. Not no mugger in the street.
