The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Arlo James
See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch
Was he supposed to be this bad at cutting things up? Was it supposed to actually be hard? Arlo entirely sure his efforts to neatly cut things had all but failed. His slices rarely the same size much less straight. Maybe it didn't matter so much. They were just going to eat it anyway right? Well. Mi was. Arlo holding little intention of attempting to eat it at all even despite whatever Mi's intention might have been. The vampire making some effort to listen as she spoke about those few encounters she had been given to have in that city so far. The woman seeming almost oblivious to the idea that half the people she had met were, well, not exactly human. Did she really have no idea? Hell, she wasn't going to last a day in this city if she went around assuming everyone was safe. Especially at night. The night here was rich with vampires, almost plagued by them really. The vast majority not exactly like Arlo himself. The man attempting to caution her as best he could without terrifying her all at once. Arlo omitting those supernatural terms as if this might somehow instil that need to be safe in her all the same. The woman paused in her stirring, glancing over her shoulder at him with a raised eyebrow as if she hardly took what he was saying seriously at all. As if she couldn't quite believe it. Great. A roommate unaware of the supernatural world and she was writing him off for being over-protective. Her mention of pepper spray saw both those blue eyes list. Pepper spray? As if that would stop a vampire. Hell, that wouldn't even stop a Were. Maybe a fairy- if she managed to get it right in the eyes and even then. God, how on earth did he try to explain this without terrifying the girl?
"I'm not totally sure pepper spray is enough..."
She had already turned back around to that pot, Arlo not even sure if she had heard him as she continued on with her cooking before she strode over to pick up that chopping board he'd been working on, adding those vegetables to the pot without even a word at how poorly cut his were. Huh. Maybe they hadn't been that bad after all. Arlo momentarily watching them simmer before finding those words again, one hand running through his hair in some small show of exasperation as he made that final effort to have her realise exactly what he was. That query so apparently having set the girl on an entirely different thought pattern as that look of shocked embarrassment suddenly seemed to touch her features. Was he gay? He felt his own eyes widen then. Why did everyone keep thinking he was gay?! Did he had a quality he was unaware of? Was he different? Was this something Malek had done? Arlo's head suddenly shaking, those words almost blurted out then.
"No! I'm not bloody gay for heaven's sake. That's not what I'm trying to tell you. I- well I like women for a start so if we could just clarify that it would be great. I'm trying to tell you that I'm not a human like you."
This was not going all that well. Those words coming in almost a rush then as he made some effort to explain his species while assuring her she was hardly on his menu- at least- as long as she wasn't bleeding everywhere or anything like that. His control when it came to humans remarkably good. That rush of words met with sudden silence on both their parts, the woman staring at him blankly now. Great. He'd terrified her. Arlo half expecting her to scream or run or.....something. The last thing the man expected was for the woman to laugh. That rich, warm sound tumbling from her lips then. That laughter so extensive she was near forced to double over. Did she think vampirism was.....funny?! It was Arlo's turn to stare almost blankly at her now, the woman managing to stutter out those words on his being crazy before at last righting herself, her hand wiping those tears from her eyes. This was both the best and the worst reaction he'd ever had to that announcement of what he was. Hell, if his parents had reacted like this it might have been better, still, Mi didn't seem to be laughing at him so much as she seemed to be laughing at the idea of what he was. Did she not believe him?
"Mi..."
His words were cut short, the woman making some speech about what h could only presume was acceptance for his 'quirks'. She thought this was a...phase? Well- it would have been terribly nice if it was. Arlo blinking at her for several moments longer in some attempt to process exactly what was going on here. She didn't believe him- that much was clear. She didn't believe anything he had said. Great. She just thought he was, well, bloody weird. How on earth he could go about showing her without terrifying her was perhaps debatable and yet if he didn't show her someone else likely would.....in a potentially less pleasant way.
"Mi, look, this isn't some 'thing' I'm into or I do on the weekends. I am a vampire and believe me if I could stop being one I would. I don't really know how I can make this point to you without biting you honestly but I- oh, don't worry I won't bite you I just- ah, teeth, look."
If she didn't believe what he was saying then maybe she'd believe, well, his fangs in the very least. Arlo moving to offer her that near grin-like look then, one that clearly exposed all four of those fangs, those two rather sizeable sharpened top canines along with those smaller pointed bottom two fangs that were notably more pointed then his other teeth. Arlo rarely exposing those fangs so purposely and yet what else was she going to believe? The man rather hoping this would be sufficient in the least. Hell, if she didn't believe this he was going to have to lift the fridge or something.....
"See?"
