i'm not ashamed of my scars, i'm ashamed of the world for not understanding.

Day after day, year after year, it had been beaten and driven into her soul that there was nothing good about her. At such a young and vulnerable age she had slowly begun to accept what everyone in her familial pack had said to her. She did not hear words of encouragement or flattery. Words that held venom were thrown at her, each cruel word or action leaving hidden scars on her soft heart, tormented mind, and battered soul. Years upon years she was mistreated, listening to their words and accepting them as they were. The only solace she received were her books, giving her a momentary taste of freedom, seeing the hero and heroine of each story rise above their strife and accomplish some sort of attainable goal. Her books could not offer her the flattering or reassuring words to help her rise above her struggles. After each lashing she received or each session of abuse she would wait for them to leave, as they laughed and stumbled away. She would curl up in a ball, whispering and muttering their insults, repeating them as a mantra and slowly accepting their harmful words as being true.

Others would be proud and satisfied hearing such kind words, complimentary phrases would stroke the ego gently and give the person a visual of themselves in a much better light. Hearing such kind words would do well for others. However, for Raven they were unusual and difficult to accept. It wasn't that she didn't like to hear such things. It was just...something she wasn't familiar with or even knew how to accept. Hearing words of praise was absolutely satisfying, it was a reminder that she could perform an action correctly and that said action should be repeated. Compliments about how she looked was a troubling thing to her. She knew how she looked and didn't understand why others did not see what she saw, believing them to be lying...because after all the hurtful things she heard in the past she believed it all to be true. It would be difficult for her to comprehend and see otherwise.

As Sam moved her to the three full length mirror she quietly stared at her reflection. She could not see past her scars. That was all she could see and she believed that was all anyone would focus on her. Quietly she watched as Sam began to fluff out the bottom of her dress, standing still, uncertain with what she would do next. Raven had no need to not trust Sam, but old habits aren't easily broken. For a moment her eyes would meet Sam's own within the mirror as she listened to the girl as she reassured her that she was beautiful. Sam was correct that the navy blue dress did bring out her eyes and the cut of the dress was not revealing, but flattering all the same. As she suggested items that could possibly help hide some of the scars she nodded mutely giving the girl a small grin. Perhaps the dress would be something nice to wear on occasion. As Sam suggested she should try on the other clothes she nodded and gave the girl a small smile in response to helping her decide if her chosen clothes would be good for herself and her Alpha. Returning to the stall she would undress and hang the dress carefully back on the hangar and begin trying on the rest of the clothes while Sam shopped. When Sam returned Raven was back in her old clothes, opening the door and nodding her head, holding up three shirts.

"These were the three I didn't like, but the rest of them I did. But Sam, I...I don't think it is my place, but if you want to make Tetra happy, other than seeing you in nice clothes, I have an idea."

The last thing she wanted to do was to make Sam unhappy, but the wolf was quite observant. There were things she picked up and things she noticed that perhaps others might now. She didn't know much about Tetradore's past, but she knew they shared a tragic story. Broken people were more in tuned with other broken people, perhaps that is why she got along very well with her Alpha and boyfriend. Either way if Sam wanted to make Tetra happy, the canine did not think clothes alone would do the trick. If Sam was willing to help her with shopping then she would be willing to help Sam with her Alpha.
