Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale

Anacosta Heights

Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.

Dupont Circle

Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.

Hawethorn Village

Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.

River Dale

River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.

He knew that trust couldn't be easy for Adelaide with her past. After having to grow up with parents who were masters of putting on a mask in front of the public and then being pushed out the door with suitor after suitor only interested in wooing her enough to put a ring on her finger, it couldn't be easy to believe that anyone in this world was genuine about their interests. He had only ever told her the truth, even truths that he never planned on telling anyone. He didn't want anyone to know about Doug or the trouble he'd put Taylor through for years. Yet somehow it had slipped past his lips to Adelaide as if it were not a secret at all. He felt safe with her in a way he hadn't felt safe in a long time. Since he'd thought he could trust Becca with everything. But he hadn't even told her about the loan shark after him because he knew she would only lecture him about his poor decisions that led to being involved with Doug in the first place. He knew she would just use the information to make him feel even worse when he already felt lower than dirt. She wouldn't have tried to help him. She would have only worried about herself and how being involved with him now put her in danger. But Adelaide didn't seem to worry about any of that. She only wanted to help him. He knew if she could, she would have just handed him an anvelope with 30,000 dollars and been done with it, but instead she had decided he would probably want to earn the money so instead he would make it out of his paycheck. He couldn't be more grateful to her for that.

The night was cool as they rode down those city streets. He had already been exploring in Sacrosanct before he ran into Adelaide in that burlesque and he was pretty good at mapping places he'd been so he was already getting familiar with the streets and where each one leads. He also knew the quickest escape routes out of town and that was one he took now, but one that only led to the outskirts where you could still see the city lights, just in the distane instead of up close. To him, that was where it was most beautiful. No matter where he went, Taylor would always be a country boy at heart. He loved the night sky full of stars that you can only see when you're not being blinded by the lights of buildings and billboards. He loved the quiet when there's no one else around, no cars honking and smoke being pulled into your lungs. He wanted to share just a glimpse of that with Adelaide, because he had a feeling that she would love it too. She longed for freedom just as he did. No more being tied down by responsibilites or obligations. Just having the freedom to go wherever you want, when you want. She gave him the freedom to chose the destination but in a way he was only leading her to her own freedom because she loved the thrill of the journey in getting there, wherever there might be.

Everything else drifted away as they rode up the hill. In a way, it was like they were the only two people in the world, just out enjoying a bike ride. You couldn't hear the cars of the city or people talking out here. In fact, he was pretty sure if they stayed out here long enough, they might start hearing the yipping of coyotes in the woods behind town. He thought he had heard them before when he was here, and the lone hooting of an owl. As they climbed through that hole in the fence, she teased him about it but he told her that he only came upon it through chance. She looked almost as if she might laugh when he mentioned jumping the fence as if she could picture it now. He used to be pretty good at it, having gone through a phase when he wanted to be a parkour master so he'd practiced and practiced as a teenager. He hadn't done any of that in years though so there was no telling how awkward he would be at it now. He mentioned to her about the options for why someone would have cut the fence, knowing that saying drug dealers might prompt doubts about being here but he felt the need to tell her anyway. He couldn't bring himself to hide any of the possibilities, good or bad. She seemed thoughtful for a moment but then it was as if when he shrugged it off that she decided to let it go as well. It was as if the action of him brushing it off meant that she didn't have to worry about it either.

He told her about how easy it was to see the stars here and he could feel her watching him for a moment as he thought about it. Then she asked him where he came from and he smiled gently. "A small town south of here called Salt Springs. Its in Florida, one of those towns so small, it never comes up on a map and even some people 50 miles away don't know what you're talking about when you say the name." He smirked as he thought about those very times he'd mentioned where he lived and people looked at him as if he'd grown three heads. She told him that she could see the stars before in Paris but that they seemed brighter tonight. He nodded because he believed that she could indeed see them. The manor she spoke of probably had so much land between it and the rest of the city that you could see the stars there too. He could imagine her on a beautiful balcony overlooking an estate, miles of land as far as the eye could see on either side. As she shifted against him, it was only natural for him to put his arm around her, his hand rubbing gently against her side in a manner of comfort as they both stared up at the stars together. He waited for her to tense or move away at the gesture but instead she only seemed to melt further into his side, her head shifting from his shoulder to his chest. Then she started asking about what he wanted, what he thought about when he was here.

He found it all too easy to tell her, to open up and let her into his deepest thoughts and desires. She assured him that she would help in any way she could and he smiled. "I know." He whispered, wanting her to know that he believed her. He knew that was exactly what she would do. He told her about Becca, maybe only a glimpse into what the woman did to him but it was enough to spark an instant understanding in Adelaide as she held his gaze and told him that she didn't deserve him. It was exactly what his mom had said when he told her. Adelaide assured him that he deserved someone who cherished him and he looked away or a minute, that bitterness filling his gaze that was the norm anytime someone tried to lift him up or make him think he was more. His father had trained it into him. "Good man, maybe. I try to be, anyway. But there's nothing about me to cherish so I don't deserve that either. I'll keep working till I accomplish something worth cherishing." He met her gaze at those last words, determination boiling in his eyes because that's exactly what he planned to do. He wouldn't stop until he accomplished it. Then she started opening up to him, letting him know just how much she understood the betrayal of someone you thought you could trust. She did have a suitor that she'd felt something with, a man she thought was different than the rest.

She told him how the man promised her the world only for her to find out that he was being controlled by her father and the promises were as empty as his soul. Taylor searched her face, wanting her to know that he appreciated her telling him that, if only to know that they shared this story of love and betrayal. When he told her of his wants and how he didn't deserve them, she looked into his eyes with such understanding that he was sure she knew the base meaning just as sure as she pressed into his side, as if assuring him that she was here and wasn't going anywhere. She asked a simple question back in return, asking how he would know if he didn't reach for them and he knew in that moment that he wasn't just imagining. She felt it too. Her gaze moved from his eyes to his lips and back again and he felt himself let out a breath of relief as he didn't hesitate this time to let his hand move up to cup her face as he'd been wanting to do, looking into her eyes. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. You are strong, Adelaide, so strong. You deserve a man just as strong to stand beside you. Someone who brings just as much to the table and doesn't fall short of any of your expectations. I know I'm not that man....but maybe, I can work to become him."

And there it was, the naked truth of what he'd been feeling. He was admitting that he wanted to be the man for her, wanted to be the one at her side. Then he smiled, a more confident smile, one filled with hope for tomorrow as his thumb brushed against her cheekbone. "You're absolutely right." He said about reaching and then he leaned his face down, tilting so that his lips would brush ever so softly against her own, like butterfly wings on glass. His chest tightened as he breathed her in, wanting more, needing more, but it wasn't about him so he would be happy with what he got. As he pulled back, he opened his eyes to search her face, wanting her to know that the ball was in her court. She was in control.
