Had he been truly capable of mastering every thought within the woman's mind he may well have taken some amusement from her realisation that despite his skill he still failed, by her reasoning, to understand her thoughts. Perhaps he never well. Matters of diplomacy and inter-pack relation outside his homeland is a vastly unexplored territory, even for the man himself, his previous pack had been comprised entirely of his siblings, cousins or those of his own species. Argument was common and yet easily solved through force alone amongst the young members. Challenging Calliel to a dual however, hardly seemed a truly useful way to solve the matter that exists before him nor would it pose any true challenge. For several moments at least he merely allows her to speak. If a life spent raised with women had taught him anything it was perhaps that it is merely better to allow women to talk uninterrupted. Her words are not entirely incorrect, indeed she has a clever mind as equally bright as it was sharp and yet her youth displayed itself too. Though perhaps 'youth' was the wrong word. It was....innocence perhaps, something so decidedly rare that it takes the stallion several moments to truly realise it. Innocence, after all, was a rather short lived thing to his understanding. A fleeting, fragile thing that rarely ever seemed to last and truthfully the man had very near forgotten what it looked like. It hardly made her wrong in her words- simply inexperienced. She spoke as if Claire's ability to cook, to feed them, to provide three meals a day and a never ending supply of snacks was somehow a lesser talent. Yet, perhaps she had never gone without food and as such she cannot be expected to fully appreciate it, nor does he expect her too. Claire's value was far more then food to the stallion and yet, simple though the skill he valued her for that all the same. The faintest trace of amusement lingers somewhere within his gaze, hidden beneath that lashing of white hair as she continues though it is a futile attempt, he thinks, to explain it- allowing her to go on as he simply nods his agreeance.
She was correct in that in the least. He had not considered that she herself would like to be selected for such a position. She had never spoken to him of it and even despite his ability to read minds it was hardly a foolproof mechanism, her desire in this not considered by him and yet he had offered his apology in that, acknowledged her desires as he now understood them- what more did she desire from him? It was rare indeed he offered apology for anything and yet it seemed she had more to say still. She had confused his attempts it would seem, else he had confused hers, in attempting to ease the burden upon her when it appeared she simply desired more. Perhaps she believed he perceived some weakness in her and yet Alexis had told him again and again he was too harsh in his methods, applied to much pressure, his attempts to alleviate that from Calliel seeming to have irritated her. His attempts at....a kindness of sorts, seeming to have been taken by the girl as an attempt to demean her. Women- he thinks, are ridiculous creatures and yet in some sense he is content to hear from the girl all the same. After all, if he understood her desires he need only help her achieve them. It is far easier he thinks- for the girl to merely tell him as she does now.
"If you have a job in mind for yourself you need only say so."
If she wished for a chance then he would afford her that, his exhaustion perhaps apparent mere moments later, the man having failed entirely to recall Calliel's lack of knowledge on his own powers, her voice rising once more as her arm swung to collide forcefully with his leg, just below the knee.
"Calliel!"
He offers little more then an irritated snort, stepping out of her range all the same though for now he offers no retaliation, allowing the girl to express her irritation as she saw fit though he will not permit it a second time beyond this encounter. Her outrage on her thoughts being read were- justifiable and it is for that reason alone that he surely permits it- this once.
"Very well."
It is all he offers by way of answer, content enough to allow that conversation to die, the man having no inclination to discuss it further- her thoughts upon it evidently clear as he moves to seat himself beside her all the same, a few moments of silence passing as he lays himself down. One eye lifts slightly at the sound of grass being pulled, violet gaze falling upon his companion as she moved to lift another blade to her lips- evidently oblivious to the manner in which she had begun to snack upon the lawn. His surprise sees him momentarily distracted from her words, another snort all he is content to give in response to her claims he is the equivalent to a wall. She shifts once more, her voice softer now, easier, both of them having calmed sufficiently now though truly the stallion was rarely anything other than...devoid of any true emotion. Her words however achieve little more then silence from him. Help him? Hmm, there were few who could do that, not now, the man doubting perhaps Calliel had ever experienced any of what bothers him and yet- perhaps her very innocence in the matter is a blessing all the same.
"I spoke to you, once, of the life I lived before I was here, you know what it entailed. I find I remember it at times I desire not to. I can read some of your thoughts when I desire and yet by that same notion I can speak directly to the minds of others and I fear that my becoming close to another might see those memories....passed to them- even by accident."
It was a decidedly vague explanation and yet surely the girl held the intelligence to perceive entirely what he meant in relation to 'closeness'. Indeed he is eternally grateful to Edie even, for highlighting this weakness in himself even if she hardly understood it. Frost seeing no need to offer further specifics as one hand moved to pluck a clover from the grass beside him, holding it abruptly towards the woman.
"The clover is better, it is sweeter. No one is looking I assure you."
If she was going to eat the lawn, she might as well eat the better bits.
