The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

He seemed thoughtful after she told him about the pact so she continued eating. She was sure he'd want to talk to his own alpha about it. She didn't take it as an insult like he didn't believe her or something. If he needed to hear it from Tetradore, then so be it. There was probably more to it. She didn't know any of his other pack mates so maybe there was more drama to it than she realized. He was much better at cutting up his steak than she was so she watched him as subtly as she could. She tried to repeat the gesture but her steak only shredded and the plate hissed in protest from the blade as it scraped against it. His question surprised her. He looked adorable, all confused and baffled at why she never asked what he'd done. It almost surprised herself cause she was usually nosy but she was working on it, especially with her friends. Henry was precious to her whether he knew it or not. Even as she gave her answer, she could see that she was right. The pain in his eyes was clear to see. She wanted to ease the burden however she could but she knew the only way he would find his relief is through forgiveness, not from his boyfriend but from himself. He was killing himself. He leaned back and she scowled at the pain still so evident in his expression. He said that he didn't have a happy ending and she gave a hopeful smile. "It will come. Just be patient." Then he turned the conversation to his turning. She tilted her head, listening. Her brow furrowed as she thought back to the night that they argued about him being a Were. She shook her head and reached out to hold his hand across the table. "Stop it. Stop torturing yourself. You were overwhelmed. It's understandable. Stop blaming yourself for being....human." For once, she didn't mean it in an demeaning fashion. She stared into his eyes, concern flitting in her gaze. Then he spoke again but this time it was about him and someone named Sterling. She had to believe that was his boyfriend's name. He said the name with such adoration that it had to be. His story had her mouth gaping open. Wow, memories stripped away. Falling in love all over again. "Wow, Henry. I'm no romantic but wow. That's pretty cool." Just seeing his smile was worth it. But then he took a big drink and she scowled, wondering if he was going to regret that later. But maybe he deserved it. He was going through a lot. Her eyes softened as he started to speak again and she had a feeling already that she knew where this story was going and it wasn't going to be another romantic tale of falling in love again. His voice was pained. He was reliving the night that whatever made him hate himself happened. She felt goosebumps on her arms as she leaned forward a little to listen. When he got to the part where he shifted, she gasped a little, her eyes widening. She didn't want to imagine the damage a panther could do to a human. At least she thought that's what Sterling was. Her face fell when she saw the tears in his eyes. She ached to reach out to wipe them but knew he needed to keep talking. She felt the pain for him as he talked about shifting back and not knowing what happened. He tried to save him and thought he'd died. She chewed on her bottom lip, feeling tears spring to her own eyes. The story turned when he went to collect his things and found out his boyfriend was alive. Her eyes glowed with renewed hope, like she was watching a really good soap opera. She was happen that they were reunited, that Sterling apparently forgave him and still wanted him. It was Henry who was still torturing himself. She felt her heart breaking for him. He finally said what she knew from the start, that he was the one refusing to forgive. She swallowed the lump in her throat. "You're the only one who can. Sterling needs you." |
