The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

It was a miracle that he wasn't more feral after his 1000 years with Godric. Godric was feral when he found Erik. They adapted to the new world together once he was turned. Godric could barely speak. He mostly spoke in grunts and growls. Erik was in a Viking clan. They rode the seas and raided villages along the coast. Life was good, but what Godric gave him was even better. They taught each other mostly. Erik watched other humans and learned from them and then he'd teach Godric what he learned. Erik learned a lot of different languages this way and then when Godric left him to travel alone, Erik tried to blend into the human population, watching and learning from them. He adapted with the different times and learned how to use some technology, though he refused to own a cell phone. Besides Godric and Julia, he didn't let himself get attached. It was the best way since mortal lives were so short. He didn't join a coven cause he was too much of a lone wolf. He wouldn't get along with the other vampires and he didn't like being given orders. He was still too much of a Viking in his soul. He lived under the radar in Louisiana for a while before the coven in the territory even knew he was there. They found too that he wasn't one to take orders. He didn't mind his immortality. What kind of death would he have had as a Viking? One on the end of a spear or sword with the way he liked to brawl. Thanks to Godric, he got a chance to do something more, to be something more. He didn't really mind the cat so much as he'd just never cared to have one. Any pet, for that matter. Darwin was connected to Sorcha so for now, that made him tolerable. When she started giggling uncontrollably, he looked at her in question. She gave him a huge grin before saying they made quite the trio and that the jogger probably thought she was a prostitute druggie. He couldn't help but smirk. "What does that say about my standards then?" He glanced at her as she grabbed for her ribs, at first thinking she was hurt there but then it occurred to him that the laughing was probably starting to hurt. He'd heard that could happen to humans. When he asked about the familiar thing, she said Darwin chose her and that some witches had that happen, or at least that's the story that gets told. She looked so hopeful about it. He shook his head. "It's not foolish to believe in something that makes you happy." She looked so self conscious then, so vulnerable. He felt the impulse to protect her. She seemed impressed by his house but there was a time when he owned a plantation so this was nothing compared to that. He sold it when the land around him started selling out to big companies and housing developments. He didn't want neighbors that close if he could help it. He bought the whole block here so he could make sure that didn't happen. It got to stay just land and trees, his own little private sanctuary away from everything else. When he shrugged off her comment about the house, he caught the incredulous look and chuckled. Adele is what really made the place home though. She quickly caught onto Sorcha and steered her to the bathroom. She seemed happy as he mentioned the litter box to Adele, as if the mention of taking care of her cat made her feel more welcome. Good, that's what he was going for. She could stay here as long as she needed to get back up on her feet. It wasn't like he didn't have the space. Adele shook her head at Sorcha's comment about being a nuisance. "Nonsense. I like taking care of others and Erik doesn't let me do it enough for him. Man's too proud for his own good." She smiled, nodding when Sorcha said anything would be nice. "Good. I'll get right on it then. Make sure you're nice and hungry cause you're getting seconds." She said it with a sense of finality. She wasn't going to push on Sorcha more than necessary so she backed out of the bathroom and closed the door after showing her everything was, wanting to give her her privacy. She was sure Sorcha must be exhausted so she made sure to stay away for a while. She came back when it was quiet in the bathroom, poking her head in to find Sorcha asleep in the tub. Smiling to herself, she snuck over to the clothes and checked the labels so she knew what sizes to get. Then she snuck back to the door, stopping to glance over her shoulder fondly at the sleeping woman. "Poor dear. Don't worry. You'll be good as new in no time." She whispered as she shut the door quietly behind her. "Darlene, fetch some clothes for Sorcha. Here are her sizes. Make sure to get options." She handed the girl some cash and sent her out, smirking as Darwin came around the corner, looking shiny and brand new with his newly blow dried and brushed coat. "Want some food, kitty?" She went into the kitchen where Darlene left the automatic cat feeder and waterer, making sure both was full so he could eat and drink at his leisure before she started on dinner. When Darlene came back, she instructed her to put the clothes on the bed in the guest bedroom across from the master, figuring Erik would want her close so he could keep her safe. Meanwhile Erik drank some blood to curb his edge and read the newspaper a little. Not that he really cared for what was happening in the world. He was more curious about the local news, wondering if there would be anything about missing persons or dangerous people in Sacrosanct, anything that might have to do with what happened to Sorcha. He didn't know when she would be ready to talk but he felt his Viking spirit alive and well within him. He needed to seek vengeance for her. He needed to protect her. His head snapped up only when he caught a whiff of the hair conditioner and knew it was Sorcha. He followed the scent into the kitchen where Adele was humming to herself as she cooked and readied everything for dinner. She looked up when she saw Sorcha, smiling warmly. "Have a seat, dear. Dinner is almost done. I hope you like roast. My mother used to make it in the crock pot. So good, the meat just falls off the bone." She looked past Sorcha, her lips tugging into a small smirk before she went back to cooking. Erik smirked back at her and leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen. "I've never ate it myself but from the smell, I'd say she makes a mean roast." Adele laughed lightly. "I bet you wish you could get off your strict diet and try some of this goodness yourself." Erik winked at her. "You know I would if I could, Adele." He glanced at Sorcha, taking in the bathrobe with a raised brow. "Well, you certainly smell better." Adele gave him a look before she turned to Sorcha. "You have clothes on the bed in the guestroom, dear, second door on the left down the hallway. Darlene got you some shoes too and some hygiene products. Let me know if there's anything else you need." |
