The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

She seems excited for whatever I have in mind. I grin ear to ear. I'm slowly groing confidence under Raven's reassuring care. I know that Raven is a good person, inside and out. She doesn't judge anyone and if anything, she believes she's the worst person in the world. She can't let go of her past anymore than I can even though I believe she did nothing wrong. Wrong things were done to her, just as they were done to me. I know in some ways that I'm not to blame for what happened in my pack but every time I get a flash of my father's face, I hear his voice telling me how it's all my fault, how I killed my own mother. I flinch inwardly every time I think about it. Of course, Raven killed people, but I don't think she had a choice. She has a feral mind and when it takes over, she can't do anything else but let it work itself out She's getting better though. She kept herself from hurting me. I think in some ways, she wanted to hurt those people the way they were hurting her. It may be a bit morbid of me, but I think they deserved what they got. Raven does have a way of picking friends. She's got me, a werefox who steals things and she's got Tobias, a wereleopard who steals and has an odd way of showing emotions. She also has Isolt now, a new vampire. I don't know much about Isolt's flaws besides that she is very insecure about what she is, but then I don't blame her. Someone turned her into a vampire and then just left her. That can't be good for confidence. I listen well when Raven does sleep in the house at night. She tosses and turns and screams and growls and flails in her bed. I can practically feel the walls shaking. I wonder if Isolt can hear it too. It's all I can do not to run to her room and jump in bed with her, comfort her somehow, but I know that would just be awkward for both of us. She's strong and she wants to get through it by herself. I can admire that. She straightens up, admitting that she likes my idea of a run and a hunt. When she asks if there's anything else, I contemplate for a minute before I shrug. "Anything sounds great, really." I don't want to mention stuff like movies and malls and such because I know anywhere with a crowd is not the place for Raven. I'm still very shy and paranoid in places like that too but Raven really hates it so I don't want to push it on her. She likes being in the outdoors just like me. That's why any reason to be out in the woods is good enough for me. I watch as Raven reaches for her cup easily and takes a sip. I pull mine to me and gingerly lean down to sniff the fumes. Coffee smells so good. I'm just not much for the taste. When she asks me what's bothering me, I try to brush it off but I know Raven knows me too well and I've never been good at lying. Mustering up what courage I have, I just blurt it out. Her reaction is to start gagging and coughing as she chokes on her tea. My eyes widen in shock and fear. Did I say something wrong? Is she going to die now? I panic and jump up. "Raven, Raven, are you okay?!" People are starting to look at us as I think about yelling for help. Her cheeks redden and I wonder how to get tea out of someone's throat if they're choking. She stares at me for the longest time before she lowers her head and I slowly sit back down, feeling scolded even though she has yet to say anything. I know her expression and it says that whatever she's about to say is very private. She struggles through her words as I tilt my head and try to understand. After a while she lowers her voice again and speaks a little more clear. Her words are reassuring. I smile softly, my eyes brighter. "Thanks, Raven. You're one of my closest friends too." After a minute, my voice gets a little more reassuring itself. "You know, I bet Tobias does like you. He wouldn't want to spend so much time with you if he didn't." |
