The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I've never been a maker and really, I have no plans, at least in the near future, to make myself into one. I've never seen myself as the nuturing type. I'm more of an in your face straight forward guy who tells it like it is. I don't always say what you want to hear and I hardly ever say the right thing. I'd like to think I say what you need to hear but it doesn't mean you've got to like it. I know Isolt must be lonely without a maker and maybe it makes me feel better to know I'm doing my part to make her existence not so tormenting. I'd like to think I'm helping her adjust to this new life. I don't know who else she has to talk to about things. She may have other friends just waiting in the shadows. If so, I feel honored that she keeps turning to me. I know she's curious to know where we're going but I'm not giving in that easily. I do like surprises, after all. I can sense her curiosity as the noise picks up. I think she has an inkling of where we're going by the way she's looking around but I don't think she's ever been on this side of town. I feel privileged that I'm getting to show her something she's never seen before. I can sense the smile on her lips even as her steps get lighter and smaller in stride. She's growing more hesitant with every step, like she's not sure yet if she wants to be here or not. I feel her hand slackening in my own and I don't try to tighten my own grip, no matter how much I may want to. I know I can't force her. That wouldn't do her any good, but I'm still hoping I can coax her into living a little. As my hand suddenly slides from her grasp, her feet pause and I turn to her with a raised brow, the silent question in my eyes. What's wrong? She murmurs that she doesn't understand so I chuckle lightly and nudge my head toward the house. "It's a party, Isolt. Tonight, you're going to have fun. That's an order." I add with a wink and a smirk, hoping her spirits will lift. She walks with me toward the door, though her steps are still uncertain. I see the smile creeping upon her lips even as we enter the home. There's masses of bodies everywhere and the smell of booze and smoke fills the air. If we were human, we might find it hard to breathe but luckily, we're not. It doesn't take me long to find a familiar face. Chaz, the president of the fraternity, sees me and inches over with a beer already in hand. It's probably his fifth or sixth, knowing him. I grin readily back at him and slap his hand in a high five gesture. I used to come to his parties all the time. They were a great way to lie low and get a feeding in where no one would notice. No one ever found out what I was doing of course. I'm pretty good at blending into these environments. I laugh light heartedly. "Not much, Chaz. You still sleeping your way through college, lazy fucker?" He laughs too in his drunken stupor. "You know it!" But then his attention turns to the hesitant red head at my side and I feel myself stiffen. I know that look. He's one of those conquerers. He likes to make a list of his conquests and I can see Isolt's name being added right before my eyes. For some reason, I don't like that one bit. My eyes narrow in the slightest and I feel myself shift closer to her protectively. At his question, I clear my throat, as if trying to draw his attention back to anyone other than her. "Chaz, this is Isolt. Isolt, Chaz." I try to sound as polite as possible but my jaw is tight. Chaz doesn't seem to notice of course. He's too enthralled. I turn to Isolt, lowering my voice. "You want a drink?" Chaz or anyone else overhearing would think I'm talking about beer, of course, but the way my eyes darken, I'm sure she'll catch the drift. I smirk a little. "Tonight, I'm going to teach you about control." I whisper silkily. |
