The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

The job was across the city, and as soon as she was finished with the mandatory two days of training, it was five-am wakeups from an alarm that was relentless. She had to be to the shop before six to get ready for the morning rush. Better than some jobs, where if she wasn't at work and ready to serve by five on the dot, customers would be angry, this at least allowed her the illusion of sleeping in. Avi was used to moving quietly in the mornings, preferring to shower in the evenings so that she could save a few more precious moments of sleep in the morning, and she didn't want to disturb her new roommate, especially when she wasn't certain of the hours he kept. Overall, though, things were starting to settle into a routine, though she'd barely gotten to see him over the last several days. Skyscrapers loomed overhead as she wound her way around the shop to the employee parking lot, the lights inside the shop indicating someone else was there before her already. It didn't bother her, she didn't have anything to prove, but there was a quiet satisfaction in knowing she could blend just enough to get, and keep, a paying job. Bringing her helmet in with her, she traded her leathers for an apron, dark hair pulled back in a pony and pouring herself a cup of black coffee before starting to go through the opening routine she'd just begun to memorize. The caffeine hit her nervous system just in time for the morning rush; the stumbling and fumbling gradually disappeared as her body remembered the routine of drawing shots and foaming the milk just so. A small frown lingered between her brows as the rush finally dispersed and the lull took hold with a vengeance. Wiping her hands on her apron, she huffed a sigh, dumping out her now-cold coffee and replacing it with fresh from the carafe. It wasn't hard to create the art the shop demanded, but she had progressed from leaves and ferns to hearts and even an attempt at an elephant for a woman that looked like she'd needed a smile more than the caffeine. She certainly needed more practice before she tried anything more recognizable, but Emily, the manager, assured her that as long as the drinks were quality, the art could come as she learned. The door's bells caused her to look up sharply, mug halfway to her lips and forcing herself to smile even as she couldn't quite tell who the individual was, their hood up against the pouring rain outside. "Welcome to Sanctum!" Forcibly cheerful, even as she realized her coworkers had taken advantage of the lull to grab their lunches and eat while they could. The downside to being the newest person often meant she would get her break last, and would still likely be faced with taking out all the grinds to the compost heap located in the alley. Repressing her sigh, she stepped towards the register and keyed in her ID code that would let her access the computer's menu of drinks, "Do you know what you'd like to order?" so let me take this medicine, to quench my love for violent things |
