The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Have I ever thought of romance in my future? Sure, who hasn't? But years of physical and emotional abuse from my father have scarred me so much that I feel undeserving of anyone's special affection. Only through Raven's constant care and reassurance did I learn that I can have friends but something more than that? While it seems so hopeful, it also just sounds like something out of a fairy tale book, something elusive and made up, not at all real or attainable. I know I don't want a life of loneliness ahead of me but I also don't expect someone at my side throughout it all. Who would want that? I have always been taught that I am a creature to be pitied, not something worthy of affection.
Even as I wrap my arms around him, I'm aware that neither one of us are probably this used to touching. Am I crossing an invisible line? Will he take back that job offer and maybe even go out of his way to avoid me now? I can only hope not. The moment I feel his arms respond and wrap around me, I know that everything is going to be okay though and I feel my body relaxing right before we release the hold and step away from each other. I am troubled by the thought of him leaving because he's the closest thing I have to a friend now that Raven hates me. Am I that selfish to want him around simply because he's my only connection to anyone besides Frost?
He seems thoughtful for a moment before he brings my hopes back up with a simple answer, that the job is still mine. I almost jump for joy but instead I just curl my lips back, beaming at him with all the brilliance I can bring to it. "Whenever. Do you need me today?" I'm almost jumping at the opportunity to make myself useful, anything to give me purpose over living day to day and avoiding those I once couldn't stand to be apart from. When he does finally speak again, I'm surprised by what he says. It's like he can read my mind or something. Did he know I was worried about him leaving me and the city behind? My gaze searches his expression as I listen, my facade softening and a gentle smile finding its way to my lips. "But why should you leave when so many others will not age either? There are other supernaturals here, others who have set up businesses and settle like they plan to stay. Vampires don't age. Who would question it?" I yearn to understand but I can't let myself think that letting him leave is the only answer.
I do feel more relaxed when he tells me that he won't leave me though. My eyes brighten with new hope. My smile widens a little. "Okay, I'll accept that." I answer back softly.
