The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

It was getting dark so early these days, but I suppose that is to be expected it was almost winter. Well, with the weather as cold as it has been lately it might as well already be winter. I know I sound bitter about the weather, but the truth of the matter is that I adored the cold. Don't get me wrong, I love the warmth of summer as well, but winter is like a nice refreshing break from the blistering heat. The only thing that bothered me about the winter was that I didn't get to ride my motorcycle as much as I wanted to. Today was the exception though, it was cold, but it wasn't wet which meant it was safe to speed through the streets. That meant that I could get that feeling of freedom that I love so much. There's nothing quite like it, and it inspired me.
Unable to contain myself I found myself pulling up to my favorite coffee shoppe which was also my work place. I turned off the engine and put down the kickstand, and lovingly rest my bike in position before I pulled the helmet off. My blonde hair fell around my shoulders in their typical waves and I pulled my gloves off and stuffed them into the helmet before quickly brushing my fingers through my hair. I got a couple of the annoying tangles out before I found my way into the door. I took a deep breath, the smell of the coffee giving me that sense of home. With a quick wave at the girl behind the counter I moved towards a brightly lit back booth.
I pulled my bright green backpack off and tossed it onto the booth before I peeled the leather jacket from my body revealing a black long sleeve shirt with a relatively modest scoop neck. It's not like I was dressed to go out or impress anyone tonight, a pair of skinny jeans covered my annoyingly skinny legs and disappeared into my black riding boots. I then slid into the booth and grabbed my backpack, I quickly unzipped it and pulled out my drawing pad and lay it out on the table before me. It was then one of my co-workers walked up to my table and handed me a cup of hot coffee. I grinned when I saw it and lifted it in thanks, and then she moved back to take care of the woman who had just walked in.
I studied the newcomer for a few seconds out of curiosity; she had a rather stunning face. My head tilted the slightest bit as my grey eyes slid down the rest of her body. My pierced eyebrow rose slightly before I finally pulled my gaze away and focused it on the blank paper before me. A small grin slipped across my lips as I grabbed my drawing pencils, in a matter of seconds one was between my fingers and I started to draw. At first I wasn't sure what it was going to be, but then it slowly started turning into the curve of a woman's body. Once again I glanced up at the girl and I studied her body shape once more before my attention slid back to my drawing.
My teeth found my lower lip as I sucked on the part of my lip between my lips. It was a habit of mine, whenever I was focusing on a drawing, or anything for that matter I would do it. Some people found it adorable, but I thought it was just weird. Then again, I was always saying that I was a strange character, so I guess it fit perfectly. As I continued to draw my strokes got faster and somehow more precise, but that was because when I was drawing it opened my mind and allowed me to feel my gift even more. I felt a dull ache from another girl curled up on a reading chair with a book she was pretending to read in her hands. I felt loneliness coming from her, it was almost overwhelming, so I tried to put the focus on my drawing of the stranger.
"Come on, come on. Stop it."
I muttered under my breath, I pressed down on the paper harder but then realized if I didn't stop I would rip a whole through this. I slowly put the pencil down and took a deep breath, my eyes closed as I tried to calm my mind. I still wasn't used to feeling people's emotions, and I've been a damn empath for at least two years. Calm your mind, Ashtyn. I heard my mentor's voice in my head and I let those words wash over me for a few seconds before I slowly opened my eyes. The extreme loneliness subsided a bit, so with a relived sigh I picked up my pencil and continued drawing.
