Exhaustion had settled deep into her bones. Working long hours at the hospital day after day was wearing on her, a sort of defeat welling up inside of her. Miya had stopped counting the hours after she hit the 18 hours mark, the woman moving entirely on auto pilot as she did her rounds with her patients. Just today, she had done more surgeries than she could count and had seen more deaths in a single day than she had in her entire life. She would grieve when she got home and yet, each step she took her body felt more heavy than the last.
Breathing out a sigh, she grips her bag slung over her shoulder as she pauses in the hospital entrance. Miya wasn't ready to leave, the were understaffed and needed help but she knew she would be more of a liability if she didn't go home to get some rest. She stands there a moment longer debating on if she should try and call a cab or not, it was the middle of the night and she knew she wouldn't be able to flag one down this late. Perhaps she would walk, thought the thought of walking ten yards made her feet ache. Heaving another exhausted sigh, she moves away from the hospital, ignoring the pain in her feet as she heads around back towards a small park. They used it for recovering patients, to wheel them out and enjoy the fresh air and the greenery but this late, no one would be around.
There was a bench there that she frequented, having enjoyed numerous lunches by herself especially is the days got longer and warmer. Allowing a faint smile, she finds said bench and slips off her bag and leans it against the cement leg, her body slowly sinking into a sitting position as she leans back. Oh.... That felt good to get off her feet. Tilting her head back, she looks at the sky a few faint stars in the blackness, though the city did a good job at drowning out those stars. It didn't bother her as much as she thought it would, Miya's chocolate gaze darting to the moon. She was amazed to actually see it, clouds were a staple here and there were few days where the sky would be completely clear of them.
A slight breeze picks up, the woman shivering slightly in her sweater but it was more refreshing than anything, she was simply thankful it wasn't raining. Shifting forward, she groans as her body protests her movements, her limbs already becoming stiff after... well she wasn't sure how many hours she worked. Reaching down into her bag, she pulls her phone out, the screen cracked from age rather than misuse of the the device. Slipping her hand into a pocket, she pulls a business card from its depths, the paper worn at the edges as she glances at it in the moonlight. It was the card Darieos had given her all those days ago, she had promised to call when she sorted out her feelings and yet, she hardly had anytime to do just that, her job keeping her far too busy to even think of anything else.
Fidgeting with the card nervously, she knew without a doubt if she called him this late he would be awake, the man was literally nocturnal. And yet, she still didn't know what to say to him, the embarrassment of that day was... mortifying to say the least. He was a nice man and she had judged him harshly. Groaning, she pulls her feet up and lays down on the bench on her side. Curling into a ball, she stares at the business card for a time before sitting her phone next to her and laying the card on top of it. It was just dinner after all, it wasn't like he was asking her something unreasonable - it would even be a good opportunity to get to know him.
Chewing on her lip, she sighs as she closes her eyes to think. Her brain was far too exhausted to make rational decisions right now. Breathing deeply through her nose, she hardly realizes she's drifting off to sleep on a bench in the middle of the night. Lips parting slightly, she's asleep within moments of her eyes falling close.
