Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
Amelia did not miss the way his hand rested lovingly on her thigh. He took some time to squeeze her thigh gently, the gentle stroking of his fingers bring comfort instead of desire. For once, Amelia was not thinking about when she could next make love to her fiancée. Although the sexual tension and desire was there, she was more concerned for her daughter's safety and that trumped everything. The gentle stroke of his hand along her thigh was comforting. It let her know that he understood her concerns and he also had the same concerns. At his comment that she was one-of-a-kind, she smiled softly at him. One-of-a-kind was an understatement.
The dinner proceeded nicely, the food cooked perfectly and the blood warm and as advertised. It was a nice evening, to be able to eat a meal with friends, even if their friends were cautious. She understood, however, that they had to be careful about who they dined with and what they partook in. Hopefully in time Dorian and Sebastian would realize that Troy and Amelia meant them no harm and only wished to cultivate a deeper friendship with the husband pair.
It was Dorian's question about her pregnancy that had her setting down her fork and quietly wiping her lips with her napkin. After setting it gracefully back across her thigh, she looked up to him. "What do you consider normal?" Nothing about her pregnancy seemed normal, although it seemed to progress in the normal fashion. "With no monthlies as humans have, I never suspected a pregnancy. After all, why would I? Vampires can't have children." She paused for a moment as she took a sip of wine. "After the first time we had sex, I started craving Fairy blood a lot. I've never craved something like that before. I like to pride myself on my self control. This was almost too much. I just tried to ignore it. After all, I assumed it was normal. Can't say I'd ever dated a fairy before. I woke up one day feeling sick. Now I know them to be pregnancy symptoms." While she thought back on that day, she couldn't help but chuckle. "I asked Troy to bring me some soup. He brought over five cans." She took another sip of wine. "Then I felt something move. I put my hand on my abdomen and felt something hard. I made him feel as well. I really thought I had a tumor. I was confused because I'm supposed to be immortal. Cancer isn't supposed to happen to vampires. But then I felt that movement again, Troy felt it too. I remember him telling me that tumors don't kick" She remembers the way it startled him, causing him to jump off his bar stool and knock it to the ground. She remembered it crashing against the tile.
She pauses her story for a moment, thinking back on the events that had transpired that evening. They had all been terrifying at the time. Of course now they made perfect sense. Hindsight is always 20/20. "It took me a moment to realize what he was implying. Once we had the suspicion that I could be pregnant, we called my physician to follow up and confirm. She did a thorough exam, took a pregnancy test, and did an ultrasound. At the time, she said Tenley looked about the size of a 25 week fetus. I had only been with Troy a couple of months and I hadn't been with anyone else in the previous 25 years." She was a little embarrassed to mention that she hadn't had sex in the 25 years before meeting Troy, but she figured she would be honest with them. They may have some answers. After all, they would quickly learn that Amelia was a very monogamous woman and she did not enjoy one-night-stands. If she was going to sleep with someone, they had to mean a lot to her first.
She took another sip, no...gulp, of wine for a little added boost of confidence as she looked back to the group gathered around her dinner table. "At the time, the doctor mentioned that if I had gotten pregnant shortly after meeting Troy, then my pregnancy was growing rapidly at nearly twice the rate of a human one." She paused a moment. "But it didn't slow down then. My whole pregnancy, we think, lasted around 20 weeks instead of the usual 40. When she was born she was perfectly healthy. Other than an increase need of blood and the increased rate of growth, things seemed to be normal." When she was finished telling her story, she took another bite of her salmon, enjoying the way the flavors filled her mouth with happiness.
Taking another sip of wine, Amelia looked to Troy and then to her guests. It was Sebastian's question that drew her attention to him. He asked if she had fully grown into her powers and she nodded. "Yes, at least I thought I had. I mastered my astral projection hundreds of years ago. I've never had an issue with pregnancy before...so if I did somehow gain some sort of reproductive power, it happened in the last 25 years." She was quiet a moment as she began to think about what all this might mean for her and Troy. She knew she was not ready to have another child, so she had been using condoms since Tenley's birth. "If that is my power, then I'm not sure how I can control it. It's not like they make vampire birth control." Truthfully, Amelia didn't like using condoms. It took away from the pleasure of them both. If there was a way to control her pregnancy or to prevent them, she was all ears. She always liked the feeling of skin on skin.
