East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

It was an entirely rare thing to ever let those truly Australian phrases escape my lips. I'd been outside of my own country for so many years that, for the most part, I tended to sound as if I had a slightly original American accent and yet some words I never did master properly. Any time I got excited about anything tending to render a decidedly Australian return to the words id grown up with for the first eighteen years of my existence. Here and now however it was more the shock, I suppose of, well, meeting a vampire that wasn't trying to attack me like those outside the dance club that Kat had all but demolished while I held her bag. That really is about the limit of my talent. I consider myself progressive. Women's rights and all that. Maybe it's time we men did take a back seat and let the ladies express themselves or whatever it women always seem to be protesting about. Kat could hit harder than I could any day regardless. Violence really isn't my style. The confusion on my newest companion's features was hardly missed, the girl repeating back the word I'd offered her, my own lips pulling into a smile of sorts.

"Oh, it means like.....for real....or oh wow, you know? Like that."

To be fair it I suppose it didn't really sound like it meant that at all, my attention however was far more inclined to ask about exactly what she, well, was- for want of a better term I mean what sort of vampire didn't eat blood? If you didn't eat blood does that still make you a vampire? The idea that she fed on energy saw my own head tilt slightly , blue gold eyes narrowing in momentary consideration, my lips parting to ask her exactly what she meant by energy- after all, that was a pretty road term- before she seemed to fill in that question on her own. I'd heard about energy around people before, I'd once had an assistance who rearranged every bit of my office furniture under the belief that would somehow bring good energy into the office although how much science really goes into this sort of study I can hardly say. This notion of colours however was something else entirely, my gaze drifting briefly to my own arms as if I anticipated I might see some sort of colour radiating off myself. That most people in this town were sad, angry or bitter I suppose- was hardly surprising. I'd probably been right there amongst them lately. Well, maybe not the bitter ones, I wasn't that, at least not yet. Though they say I'm immortal now- I've got time then. The idea that she was a real vampire, merely an emotional one was as intriguing as this idea of colours floating around people. I always did like new things, although I suppose I can see how emotional leech might be offensive, my own lip quirking slightly.

"I wouldn't worry about it too much. People yell things at me all the time, people I've never even met and yet I almost prefer that to the running away. I've cleared out rooms before just by walking into them, people see Hunter and they run. All I wanted was the company, just....to sit near other people, hell, I didn't even want to talk to them but no one will give me the time of day since the Hunter thing happened. I don't think it matters what you are, someone is always going to disagree."

I let my shoulders shrug lightly, easily, attempting to reassure her although I don't know why. I liked her I guess. Al least, I was sure she didn't deserve to have people calling her a leech even if she did go around tasting their emotions, wouldn't they prefer that as opposed to fangs in their neck? I would. Then again I never did handle sharp things well. My question about the sun seemed to confuse her all the more, those Australian words having managed to slip out again all the same although why she was talking about sunglasses I hardly knew, youthful features frowning slightly once more. Why did she think I'd asked her about sunglasses?

"Sunglasses? I was asking you if you still had a chance in the sun, you know, being emotional as opposed to....blood based."

Well- I was trying to be politically correct. I don't know what the terms are exactly. Chizue seeming to indicate the sun still burned her all the same. Vampires I think, seem to have gotten a pretty bad deal. I mean really, doomed to never seeing the sun while being forced to crave blood or emotions, what do they actually get out of it? Nothing. Hunters are just as immortal, have access to all the same powers, get both day and night and can eat whatever they want. Then theirs faeries too, I don't know much about them but they seem immortal and capable of a lot of things while going out in the sun. It just seems to me, out of every species, vampires didn't really gain anything- they only lost. Maybe that's why they call it a curse. I've never seen anyone take as much interest in my cards as Chiuze did, my fingers brushing over them at the offer to show her, the girl seeming almost delighted- another smile tugging at my lips. Well- it was nice to at least feel appreciated. She reached out to take the changed card, turning it over like it was the most exciting thing she'd seen all day.

"I can make anything appear technically, I haven't practised it much though, other cards are just easiest for me so I do those most often."

Her mention of origami brought a chuckle to my lips all the same, she was, to be fair, entirely correct in that assumption, all I needed was a card and I could do, well, anything with it when it came to manipulation.

"You know I've never actually considered origami but I could do it, I can fold or bend or manipulate the card any way I want. I'm not sure that would make any of the other Hunters appreciate my talents any more than they already do though. They think im pretty useless as it is."

I chuckled softly all the same, long ago having given up attempting to impress Azrael or anyone else from the council. Unless any of the were partial to the art of paper folding I hardly think they'd find it intriguing. My head nodded a moment later to her final question.

"Yes, I can use any card. Playing cards, tarot cards, business cards even Pokemon cards. People look at me a little less strangely when I carry playing cards around though."

Well- it was slightly more adult I suppose, then flipping out a Pikachu. My attention lifted upward then, at the sudden appearance of our dinner, the waitress placing those shepherds pies down before us as I reached for my fork. The pie was, well, surprisingly good, a smile of sorts working its way back onto my features. Gaze turned back to Chizue.

"Is that what you do then? You just work here? I mean it's not bad or anything but you must do other things right? Do you have friends you go out with?"
