East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I've forgotten how it felt before...

Just thinking about everything I knew of vampires did a good job in distracting me. Not to mention the playful banter between me and Erik. He was charming in his relaxed manner. Then again, he had likely had several decades to perfect such an art while the rest of us mortals were clumsy and stumbled over ourselves more often than not. I consider what I know of vampires which was, sadly, quite little, but in doing so I remember a name: Daerios! Ah, yes! My friend and mayor of the city. Was he still? Time certainly couldn't have changed THAT fast. He had powerful connections no doubt and perhaps could help me start in the direction of someone who knew a bit about negating blood curses. Well, hell, I think, side-eyeing Erik. Maybe he knew people too. It seemed that vampires tended to run with various crowds and considering he didn't buy into the whole race vendetta, he might very well know of other warlocks or witches that could help me. Maybe even a fae or two, even if the idea of working with the fey folk left me uneasy.

I chuckle at his bold statement and hum in agreement. "See? Already well on your way to understanding the basics of cats." Not everyone understood the relationship of humans and pets. It wasn't like a vampire would even want to, I think, considering the span of life for an animal was even less in comparison to an eternal creature. There was something striking and painful about the loss of a beloved companion. The urge to bend down and scoop up the black and white spotted cat is strong but I ignore it in favor of getting to our destination quicker. I would have plenty of time to cuddle him once I got some rest.

Playfully I roll my eyes at his experts comment. "Not everyone has access to experts. I suppose that makes today my lucky day." I grin at him, though it is true. This WAS my lucky day. My grin becomes more teasing. "He is my familiar and as such would not do anything to harm me so you are safe. For now." I wink at Erik, amused at the play of cat and vampire. What an odd trio we made. It was no wonder the jogger thought I was insane, I think: after all, I looked as if I been rolling in dirt, blood, and doing god knows what. Plus I was accompanied by a dirty cat and a clean cut man. If I came across such a scene I might think I was a crack head or even a prostitute. Hell, both maybe, and the idea settles firmly in my throbbing head so that I start to giggle to myself. Erik probably thought was crazy. It was a combination of disbelief and exhaustion that had me giggling.

I calm down as he starts to tell me his story, looking at him with wide green eyes. "One thousand and.... wow, Erik. For an old man, you have kept up quite nicely." I jest, another flash of my teeth in a smile, but there is real awe in my voice. His teasing made me giggle just a bit again, rather enjoying the way he laughed so carelessly. Head thrown back, masculine. "You've had plenty of time to perfect it. I demand a demonstration soon!" As odd as it was, I had a sort of fascination with all things science fiction when it came to books and movies. Despite what I KNEW to be the truth, I enjoyed the mortal thinking on such things.

I pause when Erik does, studying the house and shaking my head slightly with an amused smile on my tired face. "Wealthy indeed," I say blithely. "It is lovely." And truly it was. Very well kept, a complete change to what I was used to, even though my parents estate had been rather wholesome and large in Scotland before I sold it. Wasn't like I was going back there anymore. I step past him into the house as he gallantly opens the door, giving him another small smile, thinking how rare it was to find a man who was attentive. Oh I had dated, and they had all been gallant, but I had seen the other side in the city.

The voice of a woman startles me and I jerk a bit, eyes flying wide as the woman rushes past to hug Erik. I catch the sight of white and black as Darwin races by, disappearing into the house as if he had lived here forever and I frown at his disappearing tail. Hopefully Erik would have patience with him. I catch his words to the older lady and turn a bit, a sheepish look on my face, knowing I looked half dead. Not to mention my thoughts turn back to my previous ones - what would she think I was doing here? I would hate for her thoughts to turn to the gutter or even a blood bank, but she surprises me by reaching for my shoulders and speaking to me in such a soothing way I find myself melting beneath her hands.

A bubble bath? I blink in surprise then glance back at Erik as Adele steers me away. His smirk eases me and I give him a small wave over my shoulder, eager to get to this bubble bath Adele spoke of. "I'm Sorcha," I say to her, thinking she ought to know my name at least so she could fuss properly. "Ah... my cat came with me. I'm sorry if he gets into anything." I don't add 'he is filthy too' but I figure she would learn soon enough.
