East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

My Own Form Of CHAOS

She seems unsure of most things. It's a wonder she has any friends at all. Or maybe it's just that I tend to give off that vibe of danger to humans. I try to tune it down but it seems no matter how harmless I act, people can still sense something different about me. She twirls her hair around her finger before placing it delicately behind her ear, giving me polite smiles that I can already tell are mostly forced. I can sense her apprehension, just like I knew Isolt was getting ready to run. I don't usually make it a habit to use my power on every human I meet but why can't everyone be as accepting as those girls I met on the sidewalk? You would think I was going to eat her unborn child or something.

Her piercing green eyes find mine every once in a while but she never looks for long, apparently afraid I'll hypnotize her or something. Unfortunately, that's not too far off the mark. She must be wondering what I am, unless she just doesn't care and only wants me to go away. At my offer to help her with her resume, she gives a more genuine grin, telling me it's thoughtful and thanking me. I shrug lightly as if it's no big deal.

"Anything for a pretty girl."

The compliment rolls off my tongue like honey. I can see she's trying hard to be only polite as manners dictate. It makes me truly wonder what kinds of experiences she's had with supernaturals in the past if any. She seems curious as to what pamphlets I'm gathering but since I'm just randomly selecting, they won't give her much of a clue. She seems only more suspicious of me. It's true that I usually have little to do with humans besides snacking but since coming here, I've been more genial, if you will. Call it being bored with my life for now and needing some spicing up. I blame Isolt. After the night with her at the festival, I've found myself wanting to know more about what humans do for fun. She does seem to catch my sarcasm, her gaze snapping up to mine.

"Very good. If you knew most of the Weres around here, you would find that they don't make for very good pets, anyway. You can't breed loyalty in them and they've never heard of the saying 'don't bite the hand that feeds you,' at least not from what I've seen."

I smirk once more. Yes, I am quite having fun with this. At least she seems to have loosened up some, her features more playful now. I wonder what other opinions she has, especially pertaining to my kind. She probably thinks we're all just creatures with an insatiable appetitie and uncontrollable urge to bite things. Not too far off the mark, but I do know some discipline. at my question, she does seem more thoughtful once more and I'm sad to see that the scowl is back. Her answer does interest me though. She has a thing against everything supernatural it would seem, except Weres. She only cares that they're not made into pets.

"I look forward to hearing your solutions."

I say with a hint of amusement. When I comment about her parents, she does smile a little, her eyes bright with intrigue. She must be wondering how much I could actually hear of that conversation. I chuckle a little.

"Oh, I'm sure their relationship is quite the rainbow array of colors."

She seems thoughtful as if off in her own little world thinking about her parents. She answers my question about her own experience with supernaturals, though it's too vague for my satisfaction. I raise a brow, actually surprised that she gave me her name. She even extends her hand, though I can tell she's not completely for the gesture. It's like she's trying to prove something. I extend my own hand, wrapping it firmly around her own. Of course I know how to hold back my true strength, just enough to seem like I'm not being delicate because of her gender. I dip my head and half bow before her as a gentleman would.

"A pleasure, Isla. I'm Damon."

I offer as I straighten up, releasing her hand. She seems ready to go so I decide not to keep any more of her time, no matter how much more I'd like to delve into her pretty little head more.

"Well, I don't want to keep you. Good luck on your resume, Isla."

I smile in farewell and turn to leave, walking down the sidewalk. However my hearing is still well keyed in on her strawberry blonde as she sits down and gets ready to end her day. It would seem my curiosity is to be rewarded tonight. I hear the sounds of laughing from high strung young men, teenagers from the college, no doubt. They seem to be a little inebriated as they stroll down the sidewalk, high on life and maybe much more. As they near Isla's table, I hear the laughter silence suspiciously. Then I hear a guy's voice.

"What the fuck is this? You helping out those creatures or something? What, you fucking one or something? They're unnatural. They should all die!"

I hear the other guys cheering him on and my own strides pause, turning my head just a little to watch. I can't see how Isla's taking it but I bet she doesn't like being in this situation all by herself. The boys get more riled up and before I know it, the first guy picks up the table with the pamphlets, turning it over with a rawkus of cheers behind him from the others. They all start laughing as the guy looks up at Isla now, a vile grin on his face.

"Now...you should really know that it feels like to be with a real man."

He goes to reach out to grab her arm but his wrist is grabbed in a steel grip instead. I've managed to slip in between them as smoothly as silk, I twist his arm back, threatening to break the wirst with one flick but I hold his gaze, my own cold as ice.

"Why don't you be a good little lad and go on your way? You've done enough damage here."

I use just enough of my power to get the point across and after a pause, the boy nods and goes to walk away. I release his arm, aware that he won't do anything further tonight but the other boys are just getting started, it would seem. A big guy steps forward after shouting after his friend in vain.

"What the fuck you do to him? You're one of them, aren't you? You stupid creature, you should go to hell!"

He spits at me and goes to charge, drawing back his fist to strike. Immediately my stance widens, my feet spreading out to brace as my fangs extend. The guy pauses mid charge, his face whitening as he suddenly stumbles back, stuttering.

"You...you, don't bite me!"

He about runs over his buddies try to run away and they follow in his wake after a wide eyed glance at me. I straighten up slowly and retract my fangs back in, aware that Isla probably knows now the creature she was just talking to.

"Wouldn't dream of it. You probably taste like crap."

Sighing, I step forward to give her space before I turn back around to face her, glancing at her as I run a hand through my hair to check on her reaction to the whole thing before I look down at her overturned table.

"Need any help?"
