Anacosta Heights
Dupont Circle
Hawethorn Village
River Dale
Situated above the daily life of the city, Anacosta Heights is a tucked away suburb featuring extravagant neo-gothic inspired mansions. The inhabitants of this neighborhood often show their overwhelming wealth with sports cars lining their long, circular driveways, large pools, and manicured gardens. The homeowners of Anacosta Heights treasure their privacy as seen by the high iron gates to the security personnel present at every entrance.
Dupont Circle is a small suburban neighborhood settled within the serene portion of the southern portion of town. These four-bedroom, single-family homes feature back yards, porches, garages, and far more breathing space then the Village offers. This neighborhood often is more family orientated and even has organized events for children and the neighborhood as a whole.
Settled in the middle of downtown, Hawthorn Village consists of several victorian inspired row houses just off the main street. Due to it's convenience to just about everything, the village can be a tad expensive to live within. However, the residents of this neighborhood often have two to three-story townhouses, often with a one to two-car garage. Many of the houses feature bay windows and/or rooftop terraces with a small fenced-in 'yard'.
River Dale primarily consists of apartments that, despite their age and industrial appearing interior, still hold to the Victorian history that permeates the town. These apartments are often the cheapest option and sport scuffed, older wooden floors, open floor plans, visible beams, and the occasional brick wall.
She hadn't expected the wait, shifting impatiently from foot to foot even as the sunlight warmed the leather jacket over her shoulders. The heat was welcome after nights spent in damp warehouses, the cold seeping up through concrete floors and into her bones, making them ache. Old tears and wounds tightened against movement in the morning, for all that she ignored the pain. It was the warmth that made things better, and now, faced with the taller man who apparently was the landlord, she wished desperately for a bath. Sneaking into public pools after hours just to use their showers was starting to get old, and the constant worry about security catching her often caused her to rush, wasting as little time as possible under the spray. Forcing herself to take a deep breath, she stepped inside, unwilling to take off her boots even with the hardwood floors. The house was bright and airy, curtains pulled aside to reveal chairs and a couch strategically placed in sun-spots, blankets draped over one or two. It felt... cozy. Brows furrowing slightly, she nodded, turning to offer her hand to shake. "Avicus. Your ad didn't mention pricing. I don't want to waste your time if it isn't something I can afford. How much?" Grey eyes swept him over, trying to get a read on him. It wasn't like she should just jump into the first available situation, especially without knowing the other person, but memories of the rain the night before still lingered. She hated being cold, and the wool blankets in her pack weren't enough to beat the chill. There was nothing more she wanted than a hot bath, and then to lie on one of the sun-drenched couches and sleep for a solid twenty-four hours. But it probably wasn't safe. Nothing in this city was as it seemed, a fact Serafina seemed intent on beating into her skull. Avicus hadn't told the other girl she was looking for someplace else to live, but after the ease with which she had been found, well, there didn't seem like much point. He didn't seem particularly dangerous, and even if her instincts screamed not to turn her back on him, she was willing to take the risk. There were few rooms being advertised for rent, and fewer still that claimed they had their own bathroom. With this, judging by what little she could see of the house, she might be granted access to the laundry as well as the kitchen, making it more of a roommate situation than she ever could have expected. At least then she wouldn't have to feel quite as homeless as she had been, and with the news she was the newest barista hire at Inner Sanctum, she could afford new clothing as well as more than one meal in a day. Worries tumbled over in the quick mind, racing through concepts of furniture to the latest spells she'd been told to memorize, potion ingredients and if there would be a chance to store the bike in his garage instead of on the street. First impressions screamed spoilt rich kid, but he looked older than her, and maybe had some lucrative business like strip clubs or magic he'd hock to the highest bidder. Hell, maybe he was an assassin, and if she found out too much, she'd be killed and buried under fresh cement in the garage. Impossible to say, but the idea made the corner of her lips quirk in a faint smile, some of the tension leaking from stiffened shoulders. If he was an assassin, he wouldn't be renting out a room, and so from that, at least, she was safe. "I don't mean to be rude, sorry. I'm just not sure how one decides on a potential roommate situation." so let me take this medicine, to quench my love for violent things |
