The brave, strong Cole actually jumped and screamed when Carson came out from behind the tree. "WHAT THE FUCK COLE?" Was probably the most horrifying thing he had heard in years, and to feel the hurt and fear in Carson's tone made it worse. It actually hits a spot in him that was suppose to be absent in this moment. "WHAT THE FUCK?!"

It was all he could muster. Like some parrot that just got caught doing something it wasn't suppose to do, he just repeats half of what he heard. And in Cole's defense, Carson did scare him. Both of them are utterly confused and caught off guard by the situation; Cole most of all. This wasn't part of the plan. Those few seconds of locking eyes felt like an eternity. Even in the darkness, Cole could see Carson's eyes and in them he saw what he never intended; terror. He had tried to keep this separate. He had tried to keep his friend, his lover and companion out of this. Cole's two lives were no longer two and this delicate moment was thrust upon him that he had hoped would never cross paths. He knew he had to act, and do it in a way that wouldn't cause more pain. He could feel Carson slipping away and that was more terrifying than actually being caught.

And then he watches as Carson turns tail and begins running back. No, no, no! This isn't suppose to be happening! FUCK! He paces back and forth, looking at the quiet and hopefully still unconscious Amélie and then at the retreating Carson. He knew he had to catch him, but leaving her was too risky. He yells in the dark, "FUCK!" as he quickly walks up to where she laid. He raises his gun to her head and then in his rage, a single shot echoes through the forest. One shot, before he takes off running after Carson. "Wait! Please!" He calls out frantically, knowing he was far behind. And if Carson was scared then, to have heard a gun go off, he must have been an even more afraid. Cole isn't able to process this as he chases after him in the dark like some lunatic.

He can faintly see his outline, his sobbing and the sound of the dirt underneath their running feet sounded so loud. Cole manages to catch up just as they reach Carson's white Ford, and without hesitation, Cole uses his body to block the driver's door. He slips as he slides on the dirt and almost slides completely past the door. "I said fucking wait! Please!" Trying to catch his breath, Cole hopes to keep Carson from getting anywhere faster than his own feet. Cole realizes he was still holding the Colt in his hand in this moment, too. He doesn't know what to do with it now, except continue holding onto it. "Carson, what the fuck are you doing out here?! Were you following me?! What the fuck?!?" And as typical, he goes to try and turn it around. He sees no wrong in what he has done, which included killing that girl. In fact, he was rather hurt that Carson was following him. And while he wouldn't admit it, he was even more upset he didn't get the chance to enjoy himself and that he had to kill her so quickly. "Why were you following me?!?" He looks at Carson's shoe in his hand, which he had a grip on like his life depended on it. "Put the fucking shoe down. You think I'm gonna hurt you? Wait," still trying to catch his breath, his face and voice show confusion and humor as he tries to reach slowly and take the shoe out of Carson's hands, "you were gonna hit me with that, weren't you? Really? You're gonna beat me with your little Ruby Shoes, Dorothy?"
