The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Arlo James
See what it's like to be a vulture's lunch
That soft simper managed to touch his features in near the same moment as the young vampire managed that snort in response to Damon's assurance that at least his Maker hadn't been totally useless- not if he sounded like him. God he missed Patrick sometimes. Weird, nerdy Patrick with his online blogs and video games and ridiculous love of growing cactuses. In all the world he had been the least vampire-like vampire Arlo had ever known. He'd resented him in those first few months after he'd been turned. Resented him for everything and yet Patrick never pushed. He just let Arlo be angry or upset or hurt or any other rainbow of emotions. Whatever they were Patrick had simply just...been there. Arlo hardly having realised just how important that had been and how much he had come to rely on the man's presence. He'd taken him for granted- he knew that now. Hindsight a real pain in the ass. He should have been using that time to have Patrick teach him more things, to ask him those questions about....what they were and why the hell there was no one like them left in the world. They'd been close, at the end, Arlo finally having come to see the man as his friend. In those last few months of Patrick's life they'd started to get along well. Patrick had started teaching him more, he'd been willing to learn and then- just like that his Maker was gone. What he wouldn't give to bring that man back. He missed him.
"Yeah, Patrick was a good guy."
He offered simply, another sip of that drink taken. Arlo's thoughts drifting slightly once more before Damon suddenly leaned towards him to ask whether or not he was picking up the tab. Arlo very near choking on that drink then. The vampire near spluttering in the sudden realisation that he was expected to pay. Bloody hell. How much had he drunk already? How much was a bottle? Or did they charge per shot? That panic etching its way onto his features then, Arlo considering asking Damon to stop drinking altogether. The elder vampire suddenly laughing before declaring it was a joke. That relief on his features surely visible as he relaxed into that chair.
"You're an ass."
It was, Arlo suspected, not the first time Damon had ever heard that. Those words teasing all the same before that subject of covens at last prompted the younger vampire to speak again. His worry for just what he might do to those other coven members seeming to prompt that ready hunger in him all over again. Arlo largely oblivious to his own powers- or how much they seemed to increase at even the thought of food- let alone when given that very blood he delighted in. Sebastian's by far the best he had ever had. Malek had been tasty too- in a whole different way. Arlo blissfully unaware that he had seized control that entire building. The man largely oblivious to the chaos erupting around him before he suddenly seemed to grab control once more. His hold on those powers snapped as he focused on that music and that query of Sebastian's name. Arlo quick to assure him it was someone named Phillip. That was a convincing name right? Phillip sounded British. The man hardly sure why he desired to keep that a secret from Damon and yet he'd never asked Sebastian if it was ok to tell people about that 'deal' they had. He figured not. After all, Seb was....famous. The newspapers probably didn't need to know about that story. Maybe it was better he kept it to himself. Damon's sudden query on what he'd just done to those lights seeing Arlo glance up, then man assuring him whatever had happened wasn't him....was it?
He'd only just found out about that new power. He didn't want it. He never had. That was Patricks power and not his own. Arlo almost forcing himself to believe it wasn't his even despite those few things he'd managed to. Playing Sebastian's piano, turning on and off those phones- those other few things he'd done with Abby. He'd never taken control of a whole room before. That hadn't been him right? Surely not. Patrick had died over that power. Arlo hardly willing to do the same. The man almost....afraid off it. Arlo shaking his head in some effort to prevent Damon seeing that fear.
"It must have been one of the girls. I was too busy thinking about the blood."
He gestured to some of those dancing girls then, attempting to distract Damon though whether it would work or not he hardly knew. Arlo asking just after how Damon might 'help' him with that control. Arlo willing to learn even if he didn't always admit it. He'd gotten this far by himself hadn't he? Yet really, how well was he actually doing? He was surviving and nothing more. Wouldn't it be nice to do a little better than that. His head tilting slightly at the mention of those exercises. Damon near smirking as he said it. Arlo eyeing the man almost warily then and yet with some curiosity all the same.
"Exercises?"
That didn't sound too bad right?
"Alright then, I'll let you show me. I don't know if it'll work, bud- but I'll try it."
