East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

As her hazel eyes roamed the night time crowd one long finger twisted a lock of her blonde hair absentmindedly, the motion and almost rhythmic moving of the world around her sent her into a bit of a daze. Her mind wandered as she stood there, as it so often did, back to the recent past. It left dark figures dancing in her peripherals and sharp words ringing in her ears. So much so that she flinched standing along on the sidewalk, back to the glass through which she had been looking. It was that coupled with the sound of her name that jolted her back to the present, the jump back to reality so sudden and stark from what had been plaguing her that she actually jumped, had she been shifted no doubt her tail would have been a bottle brush but as it was her skin raised to goose flesh as her green-blue eyes took a moment to focus and recognize the figure approaching her.

The surprise she felt was written rather plainly on her face, followed quickly by embarrassment which she quickly sought to hide as she ran her fingers through her long hair once more. "Sebastian." She breathed his name in a mixture of relief and disbelief, thankful that he of all people was the one to have found her and yet slightly off put about how it always managed to be him. It would be a lie to say that her mind hadn't slipped to him on occasion over the last couple of years. He had been a welcome distraction, a memory she would wrap herself in despite nothing of true substance ever coming of their time together. Theirs had been a relationship of whispered words laden with insinuation, heated touches, and an electric spark that had never seemed to dim. It was a game they had played, never giving in to the tension that so often radiated between them, but even now as he approached she could tell the game had changed. "Of all the sidewalks in all the towns in all the world..." she mused, managing a slight smile that didn't quite make it to her eyes, a reach for the old mirth and sarcasm that had once come so easy to her.

She allowed her gaze to sweep over him just as it had before, perhaps with less brazenness and wonton abandon, but she couldn't help herself to drinking in the sight of him if only to convince herself he was actually here. There was something different about him, though he was dressed as finely as ever she could tell there had been some kind of shift and it made her feel as if they were on entirely different playing fields now. His clothes were as nice as ever of the most expensive make, which was no different than before but perhaps it was her own now almost ramshackle appearance that had her, for once, feeling self-conscious before him. In her own loose-fitting shirt that might once have hugged her curves, a canvas army jacket, and loose jeans with holes that were anything but a fashion statement she found herself fighting the urge to feel like less in comparison. How time had changed them both.

Swiping a lock of hair behind her ear she brought her eyes back up to his face once more as he spoke, a soft roll of her shoulders given in response. "Ah, I'm always looking for someone, Sebastian, but I'm never disappointed when it comes to you." It's always there, the unfinished business between them, the push and pull that once had them spinning around one another, and despite everything she might have tried to put herself back into the gravity that connected them were it not for the feeling she still had of being watched. Distractedly her hand raised to finger the start of the scar at the base of her neck as her gaze jumped behind him, the men dressed in black visible despite standing at a decent distance, noticeable simply by virtue of being the only other ones stagnant on the street at this time of night.

Raising an eyebrow and fighting the urge to feel like outnumbered prey when its cornered she looked back to him, reminding herself that despite being a Vampire she had never been given cause to fear him before. "Travelling with an entourage these days?" Her voice reached for distracted amusement as her hand fell back down from her tangle of hair, unsure if she achieved it or not. She was beginning to believe more had changed between them than she had even begun to guess at and it felt like this could only widen the gap that might form between them if they let it.
