As long as she had her spirit, he knew she could come back from this, back from anything. Everything else could be fixed. The hair, the weight, the muscle tone. She could get all that back. He knew she wasn't happy about staying with him but really that's all he would be happy with right now. He wanted to see her cleaned up and rested. He wanted to see her on the road to the way he was. And then if she wanted to say good bye and never see him again, he would be okay with that. At least that's what he would tell himself. He didn't know much about the magic of witches. That was different than his own. He didn't know about healing magic versus shadow magic. He'd only ever cared about what happened with his own species. She seemed surprised about his comment on getting high on life. She only said "interesting" but he liked the look in her eyes. When he asked about the pain, she said there was a little and he was just glad she didn't feel the need to lie to him. She mentioned something called Tylenol and he couldn't help but shrug, though he did smirk a little at her question. "No, I don't, but I'm sure the house keepers keep a full medicine cabinet on hand." He didn't even think about the fact that most witches make their own potions and natural medicine. He figured if she wanted to do something like that, she would ask. He didn't hire any witches to clean his house so he probably wouldn't have the herbs or whatever she needed for something like that. When he said he couldn't be owned, she laughed, a real laugh. His grin got even wider if that's possible. She said she didn't doubt him and he chuckled, right before he had to stop before risking tripping over her damned cat. He scowled down at it, even as it ran back to her legs. Raising a brow when she said no one's taught him manners, he smirked. "Guess you'll have plenty of time to work on that now." He noted the wink she gave the cat, his lips curling more in amusement. Maybe he'd learn something about the whole human/domestic animal relationship while he was at it. She made a comment about two unlucky birds, saying it was a catastrophe waiting to happen. "Maybe so, but I'll take my chances." She made a noise that sounded almost indignant before saying most vampires tended to be rich. He raised a brow. "Maybe we just invest better in our lifetimes." His lips crinkled as he watched her. He could tell she was growing tired so he slowed his own steps down more. They only had a couple more blocks to go. He just hoped she could make it. He kept a careful eye on her movement, ready to catch her at the slightest inclination to fall. He glanced up when she thanked him, searching her features for a moment before he shook his head. "No blood feud for me. I ony have a problem with those that have a problem with me. And you're not a stray witch." He glanced down. "The cat is a little more questionable." Hoping that would give her another good laugh, but a jogger who decided it was time to get his adrenaline going came by a little too close and the sudden movement of him pulling out his phone spooked her. Before he knew it, Sorcha had slammed sideways into him. He easily wrapped his arm around her waist to steady her, only loosening his hold when she seemed to be calming down. "Hey, it's okay. I got you." He whispered soothingly. She muttered an apology and he shook his head. "Don't be. I don't know what you've been through but it couldn't have been that fun of a field trip. I won't let anything happen to you." He noted her shiver and tilted his head. "Are you cold?" He shrugged off his leather jacket, holding it out to her. "We're almost there." |
