East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

He must have thought I never expected to show up to work anyway by the surprised look on his face. He must not have thought I would notice him gone. Oh, but I noticed. His hot chocolate was the best I'd ever tasted and I'd be lying to say I didn't look forward to another cup made only by him but when he didn't show up to work one day or the next, I started to worry. They would only tell me that he went out of town and then they started looking annoyed when I'd show up only to look around expectantly then leave in disappointment. So after a few weeks, I stopped showing up at all, just figuring automatically that he wouldn't be there. Maybe he wasn't coming back. So to hear his gentle voice today is a relief all in itself. Maybe I'm not so alone anymore.

When I reach out to hug him, I didn't really expect it from myself. I've only ever touched those I trust and that's so far and few between. Raven mostly, I think I've embraced her in thanks before. Other than that, I can't think of anyone. There was a time as a child that I used to hug my father as I asked for forgiveness for my most recent sins, trying to talk him out of going physical in his punishment but over time when I found it didn't work, I gave up on it and just withdrew inside myself instead. Hugging him jsut feels so natural though. I feel safe in his arms, even though he's slower to draw his own around me. Once he does though, I let out a breath of contentment. He tells me that he's sorry he worried me and his last words make me tense before I can stop it. Not leaving yet? So he is leaving some day? I bite my bottom lip as I draw away from him reluctantly, ducking my head a little sheepishly.

"Oh." I answer back softly. Slowly I look back up at him, my eyes a little more hopeful. "But you still need a barista right? Can I still have the job?" Anything is better than spending my days moping and trying to avoid Raven and Frost.
