East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Samantha Cassidy

There weren't a lot of things that Samantha was good at when it came to her job at the burlesque. She couldn't dance â€" that much had been made clear the first time she'd tried. She'd worked hard on the routine. She'd practiced at home until her feet had throbbed and still she'd trip over her own two feet each time she started. Any attempts she'd make at being enticing and sexy always ended up in her looking ridiculous. It didn't help that the other dancers laughed at her, and their hatred of her rolled off of them in waves that seemed to paralyze the young faerie. She wasn't particularly good at waitressing, either. Sure, she could do it, but she often got headaches from the plethora of emotions that swam around the tables in the burlesque and had to step outside frequently to clear her head. Because she wanted none of the faeries to know her power, nor her weakness, she didn't dare mention what made her do that. For all the other fae knew, she was just simply useless. Honestly, as long as they kept their distance from her, Samantha couldn't help but not mind that that was what they thought.

Today, Nadya â€" who was rarely at the burlesque anymore â€" had stepped in and had caused the faerie employees to bustle around to please her. Samantha had heard from the other girls that she'd moved into the Ark with the rest of her pack, though she didn't admit to them that she'd already known that. She was allowed in the Ark just fine, given that she had Aiden's protection due to... whatever it was they were to each other. Not that anyone besides Raven really knew about that at the moment. Samantha had always kept to herself, and she doubted that Aiden was raving to everyone about the faerie girl that lusted after him. Samantha supposed she should have let Nadya know, though for reasons she couldn't quite explain â€" not even to herself â€" she'd found herself keeping quiet about the situation. Perhaps it was that Nadya already seemed to favor her, a fact that only made the other girls despise her, and that adding on the relationship she had with her brother may have only added to that. She didn't need to add reasons for the other girls to hate her. She'd been the target of faerie wrath before and she certainly still had the nightmares about it.

Still, she'd been happy when Nadya had asked if she would mind doing some mending of the costumes. They tore rather easily due to the nature of the job, and it was something that Sam was good at. She'd liked sewing in her mortal life, and she was glad that the skill had transferred to this one. Plus, the behind the scenes activity allowed her to stay in the jeans and hoodie she was fond of. Even though she wore the dresses without complaint, she'd never gotten over the uncomfortable feeling of showing that much skin. She'd just threaded a needle when one of the girls came over to her, and Samantha couldn't help the shiver that went through her body as the girl looked her over. The distasted and the hatred the girl felt towards Samantha radiated off of her. Samantha had found that faeries' emotions shone brighter than any other species. She could pick them up the easiest. Samantha remained silent as the girl scolded her for her threading, though she was certain that if a tassel had been that loose the girl wouldn't have fallen, and that Samantha could not have been to blame. She merely nodded at the absurd request, looking back down at her work until the mention of Nadya wanting her in her office brought her back to full attention.

"Okay," Samantha said meekly, putting her stuff down and pushing herself to her feet. She wouldn't give the girl the satisfaction of seeing her react to the accusation that she'd spilled a drink on a customer â€" it had happened once, during her first week, and since then Samantha had gotten a hold on things. Instead, she turned her back to the girl and headed towards the stairs that led to Nadya's office. She knocked once when she arrived at the wooden door before she opened it, meekly stepping into the room. "Nadya?" She said very quietly, watching the woman who stood at the desk as though she was about to break apart. The room was odd â€" it was rare to see the office unoccupied by the twins. Sam was quite fond of the little cubs, and while she'd only seen them a few times, she was always delighted that they seemed to enjoy her presence. "I was told to come up here to you. Is everything okay?"
