Being alive for as long as I have has its range of pros and cons. Life can get boring if you let it. Luckily for me, I had quite the interesting family life growing up. My mother was killed when I was twelve years old. I watched a vampire drain her dry and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The vampire had henchmen to hold me back. They almost drained me too if my dad didn't slam through the door and shoot them all with wooden bullets, all but the main bastard who got away. I'll never forget the way his eyes turned from gold to red while he was drinking from my mother. I'll never forget the life draining from her own beautiful green eyes until they went gray and dull. Since then, you could say I've had a grudge against blood suckers. I know how they feel about our blood so I do well to keep my powers hidden the best I can. When that doesn't work, I count on my many toys to keep myself defended. The hidden trunk in my car is a testament to how well I believe in defense now a days. The good thing is that I'm pretty much immune to hunters. They can't touch me thanks to the Council and if anything, they owe me a a few times over for the lives I've saved when they couldn't. I can sometimes go places that they can't and I can get there a lot faster if I use my alternate way to travel but I don't like to fly if it's not absolutely necessary. Nobody calls me Fairy Boy and lives to get away with it unless I give them permission. I wasn't in town long when I got a letter from the Council to check out a vampire spot in town. I'm not looking forward to walking into a coven but it doesn't look like I have a choice. I've got the necessary weapons so I park a block away and lock my Impala up tight. I use more than just good alarm systems. You can bet I have enough charms and curses on my baby to keep even the most skilled of car thieves on their toes. They won't be having a good day if they decide they like the look of my car. I pull at my leather jacket, shifting to get comfortable as I walk inside. The vampire at the door gives me a once over, probably catching a whiff of magic in my blood that appeals to him but when he looks into my eyes, he looks away quickly. He must be able to smell age and power as well. That's right, sonny, you've got no chance. Deciding this might not be so bad, I roll my shoulders and stop just inside the door, checking out the grinding of bodies that suspiciously don't sweat. My nose wrinkles at the death in the air. A blood bag moves past me and my gaze sweeps over the fresh fangs marks on her neck in distaste. I don't understand the appeal in getting your blood sucked. It can't feel that good. As I move through the crowd past the booths, a large burly vampire pushes past, apparently being escorted out by two bouncers. I feel myself being jarred into a seat which is miraculously empty and as I go to straighten up, I notice a pretty brunette across from me. Clearing my throat, I run a hand through my hair and offer an apologetic smirk. "I promise I wasn't trying to push my company on you. It seems I'm only in the way tonight." |
