South

The southern part of the city has a chic family-oriented sort of charm to it. Here, small locally owned shops run rampant, neighbors often know each other by name, and the monthly socials are an event not to be missed. In the South, children can often be seen safely playing in the park or on sidewalks and in the weekends, families often take to the beach to enjoy the warm waters surrounding the city.

He smiled when she admitted that she always knew he was smart. He liked to think that he was smart, even if he didn't graduate from a fancy university or attend the best schools. His was mostly self-taught smarts. Ashton had always loved reading and yearned for knowledge of all kinds. However, it was her second set of words that had him looking down at her. "I doubt that's true. You seem pretty smart to me." He offered her a smile, reaching up to brush a stray piece of wet hair from her eye. He found her very smart, even if she didn't think so herself.

But then, he was pushing her unto a wave and she was falling. He caught her and she pressed against him. It was all a closeness that he was not expecting from someone he genuinely cared for. In fact, he wasn't sure how to respond at all. He was embarrassed that he couldn't be professional, that he couldn't keep his thoughts and feelings in check. She didn't seem to mind, and perhaps that was what made him more embarrassed. She liked what she felt and it scared him.

Thankfully, she picked up on the fact that he was uncomfortable and she climbed up on the surfboard, asking if they should go again. He nodded his head. "Yes, another try sounds splendid." And then he stepped towards the board, steadying it so she could lay back on her belly and begin to paddle back out to the wake. This time, however, he let her paddle more than he was pushing. This time, he'd see if she could pick up on the wave that was just beginning to build behind her.
