East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Alright, so I hadn't quite anticipated that she would ask me to show her how I did it. Women never actually asked to see. Honestly I was surprised most didn't and yet usually I find something else to distract them with before they actually get the chance to question it. I wasn't actually all that sure as to how to explain it for a start, after all, it wasn't so much a trick as it was, well, I suppose some sort if skill I seemed to possess although what actual use it was to me I hardly knew. Even so, I found myself offering her a polite grin, simply nodding before gesturing to the chair beside me. I'd find some way to explain it, my thoughts briefly distracted by her response to whether or not she actually ate. Like I said, I hardly know if she does or doesn't and honestly I hardly care. The supernatural world has far too many oddities for me to truly keep track of. What I hadn't expected though was the answer she actually provided, that subtle shift in her tone seeing the blue gold of my gaze lift to her own once more. It was almost as if she was nervous to say it, hell, maybe she was just shy, my lips lifting in a pleasant grin all the same if only by way of attempting to encourage her. The words she offered true I suppose- not that most of my fellow Hunters seem to see it that way.

"It's one way to think of it I suppose- thanks."

Well, she had tried and I can hardly fault her for that now can I? I'd almost gotten used to the fact I never seemed to be able to pick one species from another, at least, provided no one was walking down the street with a tail or wings- that, in the least, I tended to see. Yet from the way Kat and the others spoke it was almost as if I'm supposed to feel inclined to want to hurt them in some way. I've seen Azrael very near need to be held back from trying to obliterate a Were creature and yet maybe my passion for non-violence is simply stronger then whatever sense I'm supposed to be in possession of that inclines me to want to murder things. Maybe I'm just not diabolical enough. The woman's sudden admittance that she was a vampire saw both eyes lift ever so slightly, my gaze drawn rather hurriedly to her lips as if suddenly fearing I might see some sort of fang. I do not do sharp objects in any sense of the word and yet the notion that she didn't feed from blood saw my gaze lift suddenly to her own- head tilted slightly.

"Fair dinkum?"

I paused, unaware in that moment that some of my accent had actually returned in that moment. I hadn't lived in Australia for years now and yet, sometimes the words returned- my gaze held upon hr in clear expectation of an answer all the same. A look of curiosity touching my features once more.

"If you don't need blood, what do you....eat then? I mean, you're not even really a vampire I don't think without the whole blood thing. Are you actually sure you are one? Do you still have buckleys in the sun?"

Maybe I was wrong, I never had spent much time researching supernatural creatures and yet wasn't blood drinking the very thing that defined a vampire as a vampire? I mean without it she was really just a sort of...pale girl and that's generally far more accepted by society. Maybe she was some sort of Vegan Vampire honestly I wouldn't be surprised. It was a trend right now.

"Chizue it is then."

I responded lightly, nodding to her assurance that she was going to go ahead and order, momentarily leaving me to consider this whole vampire business a little longer before she returned with two glasses of water, a chuckle finding it's way to my lips at her notion she wasn't nearly apt at mixing drinks just yet- one hand waving her concerns away.

"Water's fine. I probably shouldn't drink anyway. Here- let me show you the card trick you wanted to see."

We might as well do something while we waited for dinner right? I moved easily to produce a deck of cards from my pocket, placing them on the table between us, flipping the first over to show it to her Chizue.

"Its not so much a trick I guess as it is a, well, talent I suppose."

The card was quite clearly the King of Spades, my fingers reaching forward to brush over the surface of it, the car rearranging itself hurriedly to form the Queen of Hearts as another lop-sided grin touched my features, displaying the new card to her now.

"They say whatever I want them to say. It's not much of a talent really, I can throw them pretty well when I need but even then, it's hard to take anyone down with paper cuts."
