East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

I've forgotten how it felt before...

I hadn't had a good chance to look at myself. Scratch that, not even a bad chance to look at myself. Just from what I could see, I had dropped quite a few pounds in my interment, on top of everything else. They hadn't tried to starve me but neither did they do a good job in making sure I ate everything brought to me. I was too paranoid since sometimes it was drugged, sometimes not. Not to mention the constant draining of my powers. Eventually that energy had to come from some where and with each continual draining, my body grew frailer. Weaker. My eyes seem large in my face, bright and burning, and my dark hair was wild and unkempt, but just as he thought, I was still a proud lady. Borrowing favors from others was never my strong suit and it irked me. Also the knowledge that I would have to impose on Erik for a while and uncertain how long he would put up with a nuisance hanging about. It wasn't like I could just re-start my business. I couldn't do magic besides shadow magic and until I got that desperate (I was pretty desperate now wasn't I?), I wasn't going to go making potions with THAT. It would make me just as bad as them.

A quizzical brow rises at his blithe statement. "Interesting," I say, with a slight cock to my lips, a twinkle in those eyes once more. High on life? How very ODD for a vampire. But I remember now his easy smile in the bar, his playful and wicked jests. It is coming back to me, slowly but surely. The look of concern on his face is repetitive and it rubs a sort of tension into me as I see it frequently. The way his eyes dance over me and that tilt of his lips to show his displeasure in it. What was he seeing? "Just a little," I admit about my head with a sigh. "I'm not sure. You got tylenol? Do you even NEED tylenol?" Honestly, I HATED asking for medicine. I could whip up a healing brew in a matter of moments with the right ingredients. I could make both a magical one or a herbal one but I wasn't going to be like 'Hey, vampire dude, how about lets stop at the store and you can buy me some fresh plants so I can make a brew!' No, I would stick with the human pharmaceutical shit.

It didn't even cross my mind about vampire blood. A testament to my tiredness because before I was a fountain of curiosity. It was no wonder I got along so well with cats, our insatiable need to figure out what was going on and all. His playful statement about the cat makes her laugh, suddenly, the sound as lyrical as it once was surprisingly. Despite the hoarseness of her voice. It brings life to her face for a moment. "Oh, I don't doubt that Erik. Not at all." An appreciative glance that quickly jerks elsewhere, a slight blush on my face. Darwin, as if sensing the conversation was not going a direction he liked, darted out swiftly and across the path of Erik to force him to either stop or risk tripping over the cat. A quick circle back around to my side and I hide a little smirk behind my hand, glancing down at my smug looking cat. "Forgive him, he hasn't had anyone to teach him manners in some time," I say playfully towards Erik, giving a small wink to Darwin.

"Ah, two unlucky birds in one nest. That is a catastrophe waiting to happen." I dont sound all too put out about it though. Rather, relieved. Relieved that despite all the daunting things that should be shouting at him to leave me, he still isnt. His smirk was rather endearing, the cockiness in the way he looks as if he has the entire world figured out. Must be a man thing, I think, yet it is one of the many things that got women into trouble from the dawning of time. That smirk.

A humph is given, a roll of my eyes. "Of course you do. Vampires tend to be rich, haven't you noticed?" The words are spoken in jest, though there is a thread of tiredness in my voice the longer we walk. "If it wasn't for you... I don't know where I would have been tonight. So thank you Erik. Must be weird taking in a stray witch and her cat. Especially with the whole blood feud thing." The words are serious. I had nothing against him or his species - they had never harmed me. My own people had done worse, so much worse. As we round a bend, closing in on his place hopefully, a young jogger suddenly appears, racing by. A flash of silver right next to me and I react, panicked, lunging to the side and slamming into Erik. But it is just the guy's phone shining against the street lamps as he jogs, throwing a weird look back at us like I was insane. Abrupt I side step away from Erik, one hand over my heart, panting a bit at the adrenaline that had suddenly surged through me once more. Darwin had raced up the steps of an apartment complex and was sitting, watching us with those silent eyes. "Sorry," I mutter to Erik. I still see it though - the curved blade coming down, the girls terrified brown eyes, the crunch of bone and other things. The gasps of pain, of breath, then the fleeting feeling of death. I shiver then, slightly.
