The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

He glanced between her and the cat, wondering which one looked worse off. The cat had definitely missed a few meals but he knew that cats were survivors. It had probably been hunting its own food in rats and trash since she'd been gone. It was skinny but not half dead like she was. He wanted to stuff a restaurant's worth of cheeseburgers down her throat or a feeding tube, take your pick. He'd seen some pretty decrepid humans in his time but seeing her so run down made him angry. She was once so full of life. Her eyes had such light in them. Now everything about her was dull and lifeless, even down to her long brunette hair. He didn't blame her for hesitating to accept his help. They didn't know much about each other and everything in their very nature told them to hate or beware of each other. Witches hated vampires like it was a law and in turn, vampires seemed to despise witches. He'd never conformed to those same laws though. He'd made peace with all the witch covens while he was running the Louisiana territory. Some of them were very powerful allies, especially when other covens went rogue. They had learned to fight beside each other and he knew they could in other places too. He wasn't sure how Sacrosanct fit into that spectrum. He'd never run into another witch or warlock here besides her. She probably had other friends in Sacrosanct that could help her but they weren't here now and he was. He wasn't even sure he'd be satisfied with her leaving with another friend. She was too vulnerable. It raked at him like nails on a chalkboard. He had to see her vibrant and alive again. She seemed more relaxed as they talked. At his comment about witch blood, he shrugged. "Never needed it. I get high off of life." It may sound corny but it was true none the less. He knew he was immortal and he'd already been alive plenty of time but as the world around him adapted, he found he never quit learning, not really. He wanted to experience all of it. He wanted to truly live life to the fullest, no matter how long his particular lifetime chose to go on. His brows furrowed in concern when she rubbed at her eyes. "Does your head hurt? Do you need...something for the pain?" He knew vampire blood had healing properties and he had to stop himself from biting his wrist right here and offering it to her. She'd probably just call him disgusting and back out on coming to his house. He knew there were pills or something that helped humans but would it work for witches? Maybe he could get her medicine instead. When he mentioned not liking cats, she raised her chin and for a bare minute, he saw a flash of the girl from the bar. She told him he'd never been owned by a cat and he couldn't help but grin. "I'm not someone who can be owned." His eyes flashed wickedly at her. She told him that it wasn't like her to just go with him and he nodded in understanding. "I gathered that." He couldn't pretend to really know her but he was good at reading others and he'd been watching her intently. He had watched her that night in the bar. Finally she said she would come and thanked him. He smiled in response. He had a feeling she wouldn't just let the whole not owing him anything go either. She just didn't see the type. She was too independent. Even beaten, she wasn't broken. He could see her spirit flashing in her eyes. When he commented on the shop being renovated, she waved it off, saying the owner wouldn't have her back and that she was bad luck. He tilted his head. "I'm not exactly lucky either so I guess we'll see what happens." He offered a small smirk. When he offered to carry her, she said she could make it so he nodded in acknowledgement. She was proud. He wouldn't blame her for that. He would just stay close in case her legs gave out on her. As she cued for him to start walking, he did, making sure to take smaller steps to make it easier for her to keep up. He had long legs and long strides by nature but he was worried about her pushing it, sure that she was in some pain so he tried to make it easy on her. When she brought up food, he glanced up with a smirk. "I have human house workers so there is plenty of food kept stocked for them." He hoped she would find something she liked since he had no idea what she would like. He could see her attention wavering, constantly checking their surroundings. She was paranoid, though she had reason to be after what she'd been through. He kept his own senses checking the area, ready to defend her if ever the need arose. |
