East

The east side of the city is the very heart of Sacrosanct - it's unique skyline is a clash between modern sky rises and small Victorian-inspired storefronts. In the heart of downtown, the sleek colored glass buildings reign supreme though their old-world roots can be seen in the most peculiar places from the lamp post styled electric street light to the stone sidewalks. The old world architecture slowly returns the further from downtown you travel, however. It's here that magic thrives, it hums in every stone and can be felt in every breath. Often, newcomers to the city may become overwhelmed by such sensations but, eventually, it becomes an ever-present feeling that's hardly noticed.

Her mind was content with her reading, allowing her thoughts to so readily find comfort in the logic of what was printed before her. Factual things, she felt, always seemed to offer a sort of calm. She was hardly unimaginative, more so, she took a simply solace in a clear and well-presented statement of the facts in any situation. She always had been quite the academic, her intelligence inherited directly from her Father, an utterly brilliant individual and yet her Mother would argue in that it was thinks to her superior blood that Isla had inherited that brilliance- without becoming neurotic. For a moment the girl allows a simper to trace her pink lips at the distant tug of nostalgia that absorbs her memories. She had lived out of home for over a year now and yet, she still missed her parents, terribly so. They bickered constantly and yet at the same time there relationship was one of the most loving she had ever seen amongst married couples. They were an...eccentric couple, to say the least, unconventional in everything they did and yet it had instilled within Isla her own sense of adventure, in a way. Her parents had been nothing less than supportive of her desire to complete her last years of school alone, to finally begin to forge her own path and yet her Father had still insisted on paying, making sure that even now, just as when she had been a child, she would never want for anything. Her family was from old money and rather a lot of it and while her Father had been content to spoil her, her Mother had always kept her grounded. Either way her childhood had been idyllic. She remembered nothing but happiness and laughter, just as she remembered her Mother driving her to school in her Father's Maserati under the sworn promise they would keep their use of his favoured car a secret, just as she remembers her Father leaving her in her pram as a toddler and getting out of the elevator at the mall without her, leaving her to ride several floors before he seemed to realise he was missing the baby, buying her every toy in the store if she promised not to tell her Mother he'd done it. It was memories like this that made her smile.

Another stray lock of hair was gently twisted about one finger, coiling and uncoil the red blonde locks absentmindedly as she took in this week's chapter on the anatomy of various mammals, her mind already pondering the implications of the subject and how best to answer her essay question when the lingering shadows of the evening seemed to grow all the more dark suddenly, soft green eyes lifted upward at the shadow that fell over her text, gasping softly in surprise as she seemed to notice the man standing in front of her for the first time, instantly pulling her textbook closer though immediately scolding herself for it. The chances of the man having any desire to abscond with a book on Animal Anatomy and Physiology were decidedly slim. She really should be less....guarded, then again, until she know who or what this individual was she saw no need not to keep her wits about her. She allowed a moment for eyes to adjust to the sudden sight of him, feeling the very first tickle of a blush against her cheeks though it was quickly smothered. That he was a decidedly good-looking individual was a foolish, girlish reaction to have and she once more chastises herself for it, quickly drawing her gaze to the number of brochures before her. Work, of any sort, is an excellent distraction and quickly allows her mind the clarity of focus once more.

His question however, seemed to earn a momentary frown across her delicate features, green eyes lifted to his own as she seemed to ponder an answer for several seconds, having missed entirely that he was trying to be amusing, if not slightly flirtatious. Boys never held any interest in her, not at all, her dating history short and limited and truly she preferred that. Her naivety in this regard however, is surely entirely clear. Honesty, she figured, was perhaps the best policy.

"Well, to tell you the truth, none of them really. I'm simply manning the booth until Freya and Cassie return, if you have any questions you're probably better asking them. I've alphabetized the pamphlets though so I can at least direct you to the right area, I- oh!"

The ringing from within her handbag quickly sort to distract her, Isla turning momentarily away from the man to rummage her mobile free of her handbag, frowning at the name that flickered upon the screen. Mom Calling. Deciding indeed that her Mother could wait, the girl readily snapped the phone shut once more, returning to the man with a pleasant enough smile, at least attempting to be polite and show some interest in these ridiculous brochures for the sake of her good grades- when the phone went again, eyes cast quickly downward. Dad Calling.

"Yes, hello, Dad?"

Isla, call your Mother, she's getting into one of those moods because you hung up on her, she knows you did.

Any further words Isla had been content to offer were rather abruptly cut off by the sound of both her parents voices heard clearly down the phone line.

Is that your daughter on the phone? Why does she answer your calls and not mine?

Since when is it my daughter? I am fairly sure I remember you there at the delivery, Kate. You punched me. I damn well remember that.

Kohl, I punched you because you told me that six o'clock in the morning was an inconvenient time to have a baby and would I mind waiting!

This Isla assumed, was a rather excellent time to hang up, depositing the phone back into her handbag where it could offer no further damage before hurriedly selecting the nearest brochure and sliding it delicately across the table towards the man, hand quickly withdrawn as she did, evidently willing to keep the table between them. Attractive or not he was still....one of them, even if she was not entirely sure about the species and her own beliefs remains the same. Certain species should stay within their own....class.

"I'm sorry about that, here, maybe this will give you some more information because to be perfectly honest I have no interest in this at all, I'm just doing it because it looks good on my resume to be part of something, so really, take anything you want- from the table that is."

She hardly needed him getting any ideas, correcting herself as quickly and efficiently as she did all things, her skill for organisation clear as she gestured towards the neatly arranged table.

"Do you.....people....actually have any interest in humans campaigning for your rights? I have always wondered that, actually."

Well, what was the harm in asking? As long as he didn't come any closer she saw no danger from him, plus, she is entirely sure she has a can of pepper spray in her bag- just in case her hesitation to be too close to him was not entirely evident.
