Even though the initial meeting with her parents, or at least her father, had been a bit sketchy, Nadya was intensely glad that her brothers were far more welcoming. Frost too seemed to be more well at ease from what she could tell. Her brother's teasing was typical and at times something she found to love about them. They treated her no differently than if she had shared their blood. That feeling was what she had chased after with Tetra, her real blood, but had failed to find. At times she regretted it, leaving what she had to try and find it with another. Then again she wouldn't have her twins and wouldn't have met Frost. She supposed everything happened for a reason.
Frost's rebuttal about size caused the youngest boy to smirk, clapping Frost on the shoulder as he walked by. "Let's hope that's the only area lacking." He hooted in laughter at his own joke all the way into the house while Nadya's cheeks flushed. Liam could only roll his eyes at his little brother's joke and follow him into the house, "Don't let dad hear you talk like that; he still likes to pretend she's never been with a guy."
When Nadya had finally recovered from the embarrassment, Frost was pulling her away from the house to ask after the meal plans. That was a bit more dicey and probably should have been handled but Nadya was indeed trying to make things go as smoothly as possible. She didn't think announcing it all at once, like ripping off a bandaid, would had been best for her mother over the phone. At least Frost didn't seem to mind it which probably attributed to the years now living with meat eaters. Nadya settled willingly against his chest when his arms wrapped around her. If they hadn't been at her parents or running a schedule today, this was exactly where she wished to stay within the warmth of his embrace.
She couldn't deny how the information of being able to have a family with him didn't cause her heart to swell. Nadya offered the squeeze of Frost's hands to turn about and steal her own kiss. Yes, she'd like to see the research for herself some time. There was a new light at the end of the tunnel of their future which brightened her immensely. Nadya led Frost into the house and to the kitchen with the intention of getting them excused from the event.
Nadya should have known it would be futile though as her mother always seemed to have a plan. Cynthia returned after being told of Frost's requirements with a bowl of fruit to set on the table. It was a bit surprising but very welcome, a huge weight lifted from Nadya's shoulders as she moved to her place at the table with an expectant look at her boyfriend. Surely he couldn't deny a meal before their long undertaking. Although Robert huffed and questioned Frost about the food, he hardly seemed apt to question him further about his answer. Instead the man went back to glowering at his plate for a moment before Frost asked after the pack. "No." He shoved a piece of steak into his mouth. "We're 43 now, most of this neighborhood is ours." Nadya's eyes widened with the number and Robert continued at her look. "Mrs.McNeil is about to pop with her second now and we took in a family of 5 a few months back. Their youngest isn't much older than you were when you got here. They came over last year from Russia after being chased out and been wandering since. I found them scavenging up in the hills doing a patrol when we were having that blizzard storm." He shrugged and returned to his food.
The family was content with minimal chit chat, the brothers having chosen to talk about sports, arguing over players. Nadya though was quiet, poking at her food more so than eating it. Her thoughts kept drifting back to what Frost had said about a baby. Her quiet and far-off behaviors wasn't lost on Cynthia though. "Are you ok dear?" Nadya blinked, looking over at her mother with a small weak smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. We should just be getting on the road." Though Cynthia didn't appear to completely believe it she let it be. Nadya stood from her seat, "Thank you mom." Nadya pressed a kiss to her children's heads and lovingly stroked their cheeks, as if memorizing their faces before stepping away. "I'll walk you two out." Cynthia stood from her seat to lead the pair through the house to the front door. "Will you call when you get to where you're staying?" Again there was concern in her voice as she stepped forward to fuss her fingers over Nadya's dyed hair. "I'll try. I don't know what the reception will be like there." Nadya gingerly kissed her mother's cheek. "Oh, one more thing." Cynthia pipped, glancing over Nadya's shoulder to Frost then back to Nadya and lowering her voice. "Mason was asking about you. ...What would you like me to tell him?" Nadya smiled softly, "Tell him when I get back we can catch up." She stepped back away from her mother to take Frost's hand, ready for this journey with him.
